'getron's next steps?

Post by Concord »

I'm having
a difficult
time thinking of improvements
to the current gameplay
of Armagetron
beyond graphical enhancements,
bug fixes,
etcetera

So I asked myself,
"Concord, what would take this game to the next level?"
(don't ask me what the current level is)
my answer did not surprise me
it was a Career mode

As I see it
the human player
would start
as a rookie
on the PAC
not pac,
Pee, Ay, See,
Professional Armagetron Confederacy
The player could choose from maybe
two or three sponsors
each would give the tail
a different paint scheme
and different mentors

The players would progress
through harder and harder
game types
first DDL-like settings
then CTF
then high rubber
then fortress
those would be league organized matches
and needed to be completed
in order
to finish the career

There would also be challenges
from other Competitors
all with a distinct personality
they would be like
nano fortress
or spacezone
or sumo
or styball
from winning these the player
would gain reputation points
also needed to complete the career

there are essentially
two parts of the career mode
Gameplay
Environment

Gameplay would require
development of
good artificial intelligence

Environment
requires thought and creativity
the player needs to be involved
in the story
this makes the career as entertaining
as the challenging game play

Thoughts?

a 'storyline' ? maybe, but i think that
armagetron would fit better to
a nexuiz-style 'storyline',
i.e. none, just levels in a progression

btw, players who start playing arma
in low-rubber style servers
play better than those who started
on high-rubber servers

well i was thinking that
to have a storyline
there needs to be some boss fights.
maybe there are some NPC's (non-player characters)
that could crash more then once before they where actually "out".
