Back again

Post by philippeqc »

Hi,

Just wanted to say a quick hello and tell you I'm partially back. It has been an interesting transition into the new work, and even though I'll be thrown into many new projects as a consultant, I think that dust is settling.

My x-mass vacation was only of words. Some of you might have heard that we are planning to adopt. Before you can contact an agency, the government need to aprove. A letter from the government saying that since we didnt show interest, they where pulling us from the queue to get approval to adopt wasn't really the kind we wanted to receive just before x-mass. That led us to many days of investigation of what gave them that idea. It turn out that somehow we where marked as "did not attend" for a course we did attend. A few days spent to track down our teacher and try to meet her in town so she could recall us and tell the government that we did indeed attend, and we where back at the top of the list. So we should be contacted anytime now in January for the start of the approval process. So that ball is spinning again.

Now it seems that the Chinese government decided that to simply be married before the start of the adoption process is no longer sufficient, that you need to be married for 2 year, and that the new law should take effect in April was another news we got. While I would have prefered to have a 2 year warning on that one, I happen to have a document stating that I've been living with my g/f since 2000, i.e: my visa to work and live in Sweden is based on the fact that I have a relationship! But to stack the odds in our favor, we searched for a nice castle around Stockholm, and we are going to get married (civilly) on the 20 of January (yep, that is next week-end). The religious one will come later, when we have the time to plan it a bit, and time enough to invite people from across the Atlantic (I'm from Montreal, Canada, and my dad lives in New Mexico now). Another ball rolling.

There has been a bit of renovating going on too between x-mass and the new year. The in the IKEA catalog has a nice llittle tray system you can put in your wardrobe, and that was we needed. So a little trip to IKEA was planned. And if your close to IKEA, there are many big surface stores around, so I thought I'd go looking for Age of Empire III so I could play again my 8 yo neighborg. Well it turn out that after 3 days of going back to IKEA to check options, we bough:
a) a refrigirator from the store where I didnt find Age of Empire III
b) a whole wardrobe solution from IKEA instead of some tray system.
As anyone who bought furniture at IKEA can testify, the assembly time is what ever many hours you've estimated, thats the amount of half-days that it will take. But the flat (condo in North-American) is slowly becoming livable. Another ball rolling.

Feeling confident with so many great thing working in what could only be described as perfect and orderly (after we have ironed out some rough spot), I came back to the forum for a quick check. You seem to have made such progress! Congrats! And scripting is being actively developed, though some hick-up on the way.

Sadly the the new zones seems to be blocking the release. It's been too long since I've put my head in it to be able to give an estimate of the time required to fix that, nor when exactly I'll be able to start on it. But that's a ball that is about to start to roll.

All of this to tell you that I'm still alive and I havent forgotten about you. With so many balls rolling, sometime I feel like a certain adventuring archeologue. And like Indiana Jones, I'll come and save he day (from the problem I created) and try to manage it without loosing my hat. ;)

Good to see you back. Are you wearing black, by any chance?

This cheery welcome would like to invite you to post in the 0.3.1 thread. :)

Whenever you've assimilated zones v2, of course.

In the meantime, you might want to put your head back on, it seems to have fallen off...
