Why we use fake names
Re: Why we use fake names
No, I don't. If my light cycle is moving away from you it's more likely due to a lack of interest.
There is nothing to run from either (you show your ignorance since camping isn't against the game type rules - why would I run when you can't even kill?)
Why not prove yourself in the upcoming Fork tournament?
Or show some self-respect and play me on fast track when you're not under alias.
You seem to only put down the game types you fail miserably at. (or otherwise fail to comprehend the purpose of)
Fast Track requires certain skills, like any other game type, and being ignorant to that will ensure you stay a noob in that game type.
If you don't get it, you won't learn; try opening your mind to what Fast Track actually is before you judge it from your biased perspective.
More importantly, stop pretending you are good; more than enough of the "kids" that play there can beat you (you are no where close to the top).

Re: Why we use fake names
Look at that paragraph of boohoo. I rest my case son.
If you want to pretend im terribly at game modes you never do, Im way ok with that.
Im not here to make you feel better, im here to make you play better.

Re: Why we use fake names
^ You can't say anything else? Nothing about what I said can be considered "boohoo" as you put it. Incidentally, you show how you have nothing of value to say to it (speechless)./dev/null wrote:Look at that paragraph of boohoo. I rest my case son.
^ Learn english please./dev/null wrote:If you want to pretend im terribly at game modes you never do, Im way ok with that.
^ Have you ever succeeded? No one is asking you to make them feel better; I was saying for you to do more than say words (boohoo all day long) and get on the grid under the name "/dev/null" and prove your worth. This isn't to make me feel better, it is to give value to the garbage you litter across these forums (your pathetic cries to be verified as a good player)./dev/null wrote:Im not here to make you feel better, im here to make you play better.
Has anyone ever seen "/dev/null/" on the grid? Has anyone seem them even play well? I rest my case "son".
Overall, I was telling you to get over yourself. You are not a master of tron. Deal with it.
Re: Why we use fake names
Nope, but there is a guy called "Meatfucker" (maybe you've spoken to him) that also has this; I'm amazing at tron complex. When in actual fact they are so ridiculously shit at the game for playing for so long.Durf wrote:

By which I mean they do things I used to do when I just started out, but I only played like that because I was, factually, a noob.
Meatfucker also drinks a lot of whisky like /dev/null.
...Same guy?
Re: Why we use fake names
To be fair I'm fairly certain that I have seen /dev/null play before, and as I remember it he wasn't bad in the server he was playing in. I think the server was mudpuddle or something with similar physics.Durf wrote:Has anyone ever seen "/dev/null/" on the grid? Has anyone seem them even play well? I rest my case "son".

Re: Why we use fake names
@F0RC3:
The point was that I have never seen that name on the grid.
In a thread called "Why we use fake names", /dev/null has been spewing nonsense, then trying to boast about his skills (showing why they use fake names - they avoid being known as the ass they're known as on here).
My response to that is simple; prove your name's worth on the grid (I started by saying that neither of the clowns in this thread could beat me in fast track - their arrogance is unfounded).
I don't doubt that /dev/null is good (at the game types they play), but they overstepped a boundary by trying to claim more than they should have. I was just pointing that out.
@nelg, personally I think this has a lot to do with "why we use fake names".
@everyone
I will play anyone on any game type under the name "Durf" and even log in as "Durf@forums". I don't use fake names as there is nothing to hide.
I know what I'm good at, and I know what I suck at (god, do I ever suck at sumo); point is, what do you (anyone) have that I don't that causes you (anyone) to use a fake name? Is it shame? There is no purpose in it.
@/dev/null, fight me in Fast Track using the global ID "/dev/null@forums". This isn't the first time I'm asking you; yet each time you fail to deliver what you claim you can. As it stands, your claims have no value whatsoever (since they apply to specific game types; just like everyone else) - fight me in fast track and I'll force you to "let me win".

Re: Why we use fake names
Shame certainly wasn't the reason I wrote this.Is it shame? There is no purpose in it.
Re: Why we use fake names
You're right.
I probably should have been specific enough to say "..those who HIDE behind their alternate names..".
But I figured the thread topic "fake names" implied that already (fake = pretending to be someone you're not; only reason I can think of is shame).
I'm not saying using another name is bad; no one would want to be stuck with a bad name because their younger self couldn't come up with anything better.
I was talking specifically about the purpose of using a fake name.
I've even used alternate names sometimes, but only for specific reasons.
Once I renamed to FistyMcBeefPunch on a custom server that allowed names up to 25 characters.
Sometimes I rename to huehuehuehue on +ap servers since they allow more colors in a name (get it? it's a laugh, but also a bunch of hues!).
But to me, there's barely even a reason to use such names; there is no reason to hide behind an alias. I just play as Durf.
So perhaps you were deciding on a name that suits you best, perhaps it was something else that caused all the names...
Either way, I don't think everyone who uses a different name than they started with is doing so out of shame..
But at the same time, I don't see enough reasons to actually change names (maybe that's because I'm happy with mine).
P.S - I think I've played you when you were MOJO JOJO! Kewl! Interesting list of names..
OffTopic: ..Funny though, I'm beginning to doubt whether or not /dev/null would even try to fight me in FT.

Re: Why we use fake names
this makes me giggle. Lots of people who never play any game modes I do, pretending they can kick my ass.
Whats not to love?

Re: Why we use fake names
I most certainly will. Every time you idiots have tried to intimidate me you ran away. Bring it.
I dont play within the narrow confines of what you think is ok. This is far from the first time some jackass died.
The trick is oyu are going to try an dmake me play on some server with 30 or more rubber. LIKE A BOSS

Re: Why we use fake names
Lol /dev/null, you just failed hard:
All in all, get over yourself.
If you want to be that arrogant, then be prepared to back it up.
Like I've said, you can't beat me in Fast Track - you are not even a threat if you can't deal with 30 rubber; so I can understand how you see the challenge as a waste of time. Next time you shouldn't try to bite off more than you can chew..
I will take this as a refusal to my challenge (yet again - what a surprise from a total noob).
Also stop discriminating against servers / game types just for their rubber setting; you have got to be the person most obsessed with rubber in all of tron. like wtf. Just play the game already and quit your bitching.
^ this is what you are to the gametypes you refuse to play in. This is why I'm even posting to you in this thread; the reason why I've challenged you to a match in Fast Track. Funny how you think we're the ones being arrogant about this when you're the one trying to proclaim your imaginary skills./dev/null wrote:this makes me giggle. ^ actually you are too afraid to even dip your toes in anything you don't feel comfortable in or don't understand; so no, you are the one running away from a challenge. I, on the other hand, have declared that I will play anyone on any game type (with this global ID). No one is trying to intimidate you, you just get intimidated by the thought of playing in an area you completely fail at./dev/null wrote:I most certainly will. ^ this is what I'm talking about. You boast about your skills, but then say you only play on the game types you think matters. This is arrogance; plain and simple. The truth of the matter is that you have no skills in those game types and you pretend like that lack of skill makes sense and/or is acceptable/expected. I should probably remind you of what's been said since you're fairly hard headed: I will gladly play anyone in any game type as myself; you are the one that has a narrow confine of what you think is ok, not me./dev/null wrote:I dont play within the narrow confines of what you think is ok. ^ the trick is to post on the forums as if there are only low rubber game types - then to have your shit called out on and be proven to be just like everyone else (no special skills, but a predisposition to the game types preferred/played)./dev/null wrote:The trick is oyu are going to try an dmake me play on some server with 30 or more rubber. Re: Why we use fake names
I feel like an idiot for trying, but...
Can you guys just stop arguing?
I feel like this is the millionth thread I've seen where it just turns into pages of fighting about something silly. We all know /dev/null is an arrogant ****. Likewise, we all know you (Durf) have gone from the "quiet guy that makes cool things for tron" to the guy who takes too much time out of his day to write long arguments on the forums.
I'm sure you're a great guy, I certainly think so. I don't particularly disagree with much that you have to say. Just try to express more maturity on these forums. You have much of the personality that I had about 5 years ago. Just learn to let it go.
