How do we decide who is gonna play for the team?

I mean germany has like 15+ players signed up.
Everyone wants to play i guess, but who is gonna decide who plays?

Kinda unclear in this situation... kinda same situation with US team tho ^^
Signature? wtf...

Why don't we do it by classic voting, everyone chooses 8 players who he votes for and the ones with the most votes get to play.

I have to say I'm disappointed in how this is developing.

The original motive in creating this tournament over a year ago was to let countries compete to see which one is the best at fortress. Not just another tourney where anyone who wants to can join for fun. It seems like a part of this community can't handle some elitist elements (like only 6-10 out of 30-40 US players getting to play), and it's certainly great when everyone is welcome, but there are already a bunch of tourneys where everyone is welcome, and this tournament would need a more serious structure if it's going to be a success*.

I know it's a challenge due to your majority in numbers, but try to see USA as one country among all the others. I think it's a given that every country should be limited to having one team. However, you could be more creative in choosing the teams. For example you could split your players equally (by voting, randomizing or captain picking) into 3 or 4 teams and then having these 3 or 4 teams playing eachother, say, the sunday before, for the spot in the real tournament. Many US players would get to play, US would be playing with their best team in the tourney and it wouldn't otherwise affect the other teams in the tournament.

As for merging countries like for example Hispanics or East Europe, that's fine as a temporary solution until there are more players.

*What I mean with success is that the fort cup/world cup would be a big, rare event that everyone talks about before, and people remember long after. However, the result won't be serious if the structure isn't.

Titan, nice to see you around again.
I understand your viewpoint, and you may have a valid point. Perhaps there is a better solution. There are enough people signed up for the USA to have a "mini tournament" of teams to pick the best team. Why not do that?

I was supporting a specific choice of the several offered. 'Nuff talk. When you guys are ready, I would gladly host such a mini tournament. Just as an added twist, I would recommend that we only use European servers. I have one in Ireland and one in Germany and would gladly put up servers just for this. The nice thing about doing it this way, is that the team that is best able to cope with European pings would have an advantage. I really think that the team that is best able to own in European servers is the team that will do the best in this competition.

I've always been in favor of 1 team max per country. (At least for this fort cup. I believe for the first too, but I'm not sure.) It's a friggin' battle of the countries. Those with more players already have a larger pool to choose from (quantity feeds quality), why make it even more uneven and give those same countries even more teams to play with?

And another objection to multiple teams: Assuming that multiple teams from a single country would be relatively the same in talent, why dilute the best players among other teams rather than concentrating them into one best team?

I know some people want USA to be split, others to be one single team. Personally I'd vote for a split, likening it to a West and East Germany competing in the World Cup as two seperate teams.

I would like to point out that with the number of pages of discussion on this one tournament, we probably could have hosted it successfully 3 times over. Whoever ends up organising it, for heavens sake make a decision and get it going. There really isn't much point hanging over the finer details with such a conflict in ideas
