I agree with Lucifer. My very light and brief venture into drug usage has left me with a slight but seemingly permanent haze compared to my youth. Here's one side effect I didn't expect: I couldn't rip on guitar as fast after doing drugs as before. If I were you, I'd get this all out of your system as fast as possible and go straight edge. It will make you a better musician, an in the end, that's WAY more rewarding than being high.

It's not like it was an outlandish assumption. Probably a majority of people I've known who were both a stoner/junkie and player of a musical instrument believed at some point, especially early on, that the drugs were a wellspring of inspiration, better playing, blah blah. Not uncommon among artists and some writers, either. It's not baseless, superficial cynicism; it's common reality.

Not to mention you, specifically, already admitted to connections between pot and reggae, and listening to "trippy" music while on shrooms, for a couple examples that immediately spring to mind.

And I did say, "part of," not "sole" reason—and still bet it's true, whether you'll now admit it or not.

I dunno guys Hendrix was on a lot of hallucinogenics and if you are right about skills and inspiration not being related to the drugs that these artists were consuming I can only wonder what we missed from these people had they not done any drugs. JK These people would not have become what they were had they not done the drugs that changed their world view and if we had a "straight edged" Hendrix I don’t believe that we would have a Purple Haze or anything half as good to listen to in the grips of an acid trip. Drugs, the hallucinogenic kind, are amazing and open up an aspect of human life that is otherwise unreachable. Though, I do not recommend the use of LSD for its risks of general loss of cognitive awareness; I do suggest that everyone try magic mushrooms or at least smoke a joint every once in a while because these things allow for the spiritual experience with out most of the risks of losing one's mind. Spirituality is a large part of taking these drugs and so if you are an atheist than stay away from hallucinogens for you have nothing to gain until you can soberly recognize the spiritual part of yourself. As far as meth, crack, cocain, and heroin go; I don’t believe that these drugs are worth taking though they kill less people each year than prescription pills like Oxycontin and Vikodin. If you are one of those anti pot soldiers for Nixon's side of the drug war just look at this plant that god has given to us. Once you have been in the presence of this wondrous living plant you will know that nothing is wrong with it. Hell most of today's best gardeners are growing weed.
