Some stuff from locutus's website that I liked:

These aren't artemis-themed, but they're cool:

I like his grid walls, pretty much all of them, but they break down on maps. Anyway, his site's linked at the bottom of every page. :)

Tree: The gimp source file would be nice indeed, we could adapt the color ourselves then.

I'd like to keep the slanted gridlines on the bike trail texture, it tells you where the cycle was going, and that's information I'm always grateful for.
Edit: And I'd veto shine-through wall textures. The engine does not do depth sorting, so they look wrong half of the time. See-through holes (fully transparent) like on XLR8-Revenge would be fine technically, alpha masking handles them just all right.

Screenshots are with

Code: Select all

FLOOR_RED .1
FLOOR_GREEN .2
FLOOR_BLUE .6
and the rim wall rendering code modified, disabling the tiling in y-direction.
I was afraid that the blue team would get harder to see and we need to redeclare it team red, resulting in outrage of the Tron fans. But it seems to be all right, so no objections against making Artemis all blue.

I like what the rim texture does to the race server. Y-Tiling was still enabled in this shot.

so here come the GIMP sources.

some background info:
The font I used for the "Armagetron Advanced", Flicker, is from http://dev.null.org/fonts/. I have yet to find a way to contact the author to ask about the licencing, since it would probably be nice to include the font of we included the gimp source.
The backgound is böack with a supernova at roughly 646x410. to change its colour, you can just do it again. I don't know how I did the bars around "Armagetron Advanced", but you can just colorify them. The statue likewise.

The files are real gzipped xcf files.

Bump. Turns out I'm useless with gimp, it'd take me hours to make the title screen blue :( Unless I just mess with the finished pic and send it through a filter.

Since there were no new entries, rc2 is going to look like rc1 with Fonkay's blue wall and blue floor. I added configuration variables for rim wall texture scaling so you'll be able to mess with it once rc2 is out.

I added a dual texture version of your_mom's detailed floor, while I was at it.

Humm quite a question. Seeing my big background in color perception, I'll answer:
"The one that harmonize the best with the feeling of the arena as using all the data files."

;) You do realise that if I've said "wall blue" you'd have come back with "which part of the wall, and where on the spot light?". ;)

You already did a good job on the splash using the blue color, just that there is the small border around it. You've succeded into avoiding making Artemis look like a smurf and create a good aura around the statue. Seeing you are in full control of your skills, I didnt feel appropriate to dictate anything more. I have trust in you.

So, to really answer to your question, I'll say "Just wow us!".

I don't know, having Artemis as Papa Smurf might be pretty neat, you know.

I doubt that - I know I'd have to vary the tone any way...

so, I moved the statua back down where it was in the first place and gimped this:

Walking Tree: Beautifull. both of them! Excellent work.

To the creative minds: Dont be shy, submit your entry. The fame and glory that comes from having its media file selected in the release isnt the one where complete stangers stare at you and look into your grocery bags to know what celebreties eat, not is it hordes of teenaged person of the opposite sex which will giggle seeing you past by before one of them can muster up the courage to ask you for an autograph. The fame and glory that AA offers is a bit more modest and respectfull. So dont let it stand in the way of you submitting some fine material!

To all: Fell free to influence my not-so-impartial decision process, and tell us what you think , among the submitted items, would make for the greatest of moviepack, the one that will be included in Artemis.

I just had a "wave of inspiration"
same basic elements, very different combination.
