Actually, his MMR is too low for Diamond 5. If his MMR was higher than Diamond 5, he would be put in promos.

Do you really think that by going from gold 1 to plat 1 in 3 weeks makes his mmr too low just when he reaches 99LP at plat 1 ?

It seem to be a known fact for plat1 players, they seem to be blocked at plat1 when they climbed too fast and they need to play with lower mmr duo to be able to get into promos.

That website does not have your actual MMR. It has an estimate. Your MMR is hidden to everyone except for Riot. If MMR was that easy to calculate, LoLKing (and probably LoLNexus) would display it, and label it as MMR instead of giving it a "disclaimer title".

The league system was designed to prevent players from reaching new leagues from luck (it also has protection against bad luck streaks). His MMR is not good enough to get into Diamond (assuming that MMR is the only thing that determines where you stand). His MMR could be better than players who are in Diamond due to the fact that it is impossible to drop leagues if you're an active player; but he still needs higher MMR to reach Diamond promos.

Now... if MMR is not the only thing that contributes to where you stand, I would assume that the system's confidence in your rating plays a role. Riot really hasn't explained how the system measures confidence, so I'm just speculating; but judging from the win streak he had, the system may view that as a lucky streak, may not be as confident in his Diamond MMR, and may want him to continue to win more games than he loses to increase confidence, and let him into Diamond promos.

When he plays ranked he is matched up with diamond 3 players, not plat nor anyone else.

Later this day he won several 0LP worth matches and switched from 99 to 100 and went to promos. So I guess you can earn 0.5 LP but the decimal is not displayed.

He won several 0 to go from 99 to 100 so I guess he won more than 0. And before arriving to the end of plat 1 he was winning ~20LP/win

If you look on internet about what LoL say about mmr system you would know that the system work that way:
- if you win a lot then the system will understand it was mistaken about your level and will start to give you more mmr for a win and matching you with better people.
- if you have a higher mmr than your league, you may jump divisions (from gold 5 to gold 3 without playing in gold4 for instance)
- the tool made by koreans is pretty accurate and compare your current mmr to the mmr you re supposed to have in the league you're in, it is to know if you'll earn a lot of LP or jump a division

No, you earn 0 LP. Riot said this is one of the things they are going to change about the League system because of cases like this. Earning 0 LP from a victory, while losing LP for a defeat is extremely frustrating and confusing.

Plat3, still getting 20-25LP per win and losing about 15-16. I could tryhard for diamond but I don't know if it's feasible.

I haven't been trying as hard as I should be when I queue for ranked. >.>

Totally happy with just hitting Plat this season and the end of the season attitude change in players makes ranked a real turn off. My next goals (which will take ages probably) are to get Diamond stats on Dominion and on the ARAM map. Hearthstone may take up most of my time if it continues to be so awesome.
