What would you be trying to achieve with the external recorder? Anything beyond chat logs probably is out of reach, to create a debug recording you can play back in a regular client, you'll need to add the right "time passed", "no network data received" and "no key pressed" events between the "network data received" events that you can record.
The alternative is a client possibly with a configure flag that runs headless. I'd be trying to achieve something that doesn't suck so many resources it could record a game, and have 4-6 processes of it running at a time, so I could stick it in a cronjob that tells it when to connect to which servers and record. :) (the fact that if it were a python script rather than a specially compiled client just makes it easier to make it to stuff that armabot does, or hook it directly to supybot, but theoretically with scripting in the trunk we can do that stuff anyway)

A headless client should be possible. There is a global variable that disables rendering (used when the window gets inactive or minimized), (s)r_glOut. And it should be possible to not open a window at all, when nothing is rendered, that shouldn't be too much of a problem (where it is, wrap things in if(r_glOut)). You'll have to convince the client to limit itself to a decent framerate, of course.

Hmmm, did the commandline option to connect to a server get introduced before or after 0.3.0? ;) (Maybe I need to beat on the 0.3.1 drum again, but I need to actually write some code before I do that...)

Oops quit the AFL, check your schedules. All games with Oops have therefore been cancelled, leaving us with an odd man out every week.

well depends, do SP still get points for beating them in the 1st round...? looking at the wiki it doesn't look like it so I guess thats a no alex

The season needs more matches.

Well, here's the situation. Since this is a short season, not everybody was scheduled to play against every other team. So giving everyone who was scheduled to play Oops a point for that seems unfair to me. Knowing that, if I give everybody a point (because it would be fair), then it would be meaningless (for one thing), and also unfair to SP, at least those members that showed up for the game ;) .

So no action has been taken other than to remove Oops from the schedule and give everybody on those weekends a bye. What we do about this is going to affect seeding for the playoffs, so it's pretty important.

I was going to have SP and Oops replay their game, but then Oops withdrew before I got to talk to them. So I'm inclined to toss the results from the game that was played. In any case, nothing has to be decided until it's time to compute rankings for the playoffs. To work up rankings for now, just don't figure games with Oops, and come talk to me in #afl to convince me what you want to do is right, whatever it is. :)
