Heh. Sorry, 9 times out of 10, a sentence that starts with "So you're saying" is usually going to be something that has been rewritten, either intentionally or not, to try to put what I've said into terms that are the most offensive possible for the person who's started the sentence, and then used as a base from which to attack me, frequently personally. I realize that rephrasing what someone says and asking "Is that what you mean?" is a good way to try to understand what someone says, but that seems to be the exception and not the rule.
So I respond pre-emptively in those cases, these days.
I don't believe in those conspiracies. They're nonsense. And Bush 43 isn't controlled by his pappy, either. If he were, he'd be a hell of a lot more moderate.
OK, so, a couple things. One, I've been watching the various news stations, and something I'm noticing over and over is that back at the main desk they'll be interviewing either just some random person or their own reporters, and they'll come to the questions like, "did you witness any violence?" "Did you feel at all in danger when you went into that crowd?" "How dangerous is it down there?" Any variation on those. Time and again the interviewees, and even their own reporters are answering, "No," unequivically. But then they go to their next guest and ask the same questions again, usually prefaced by a declarative statement such as "we know there is a lot of violence and mob rule down there."
There are a lot of angry people, because they've been basically abandoned and are right on the edge of death, but everyone is either helping out one another or too near-death to do anything. There have been some isolated incidents, but that's the kind of thing you can find if you take a camera into any major US city, and again I refer back to my previous post for explanation.
So, as I suspected, the media are apparently hyping that up into a lot of bullshit. Fact is, white America is scared of black America, and when they see brown people with anything other than big Uncle Tom grins on their faces, the honkeys assume widespread thuggery and violence.
Secondly, there is still virtually no assistance that has been brought in down there. People are dying because they can't even get water. They're picking through garbage for spoiled food. People with diabetes are dropping left and right because they can't get their insulin. Everything around them is contaminated. What exists of the Guard or police are either standing around or driving right through crowds. Federal assistance is for the most part next to nil. Why? Because the victims are poor and brown. That's two strikes against you when it comes to your priority and importance in America. It's a damned disgrace.
But at least Bush&Co. has been having a nice vacation.
I didn't mean that Bush is controlled by his Dad, although I realize now that's how it sounded. I meant that he is a puppet, and he is. But the Daddy thing was in reference to how he got the job in the first place.
Where did the heroes go? I have this memory of people going into collapsing buildings in NYC, but all I've been hearing out of New Orleans is chickenshit "we're afraid the hungry people might shoot us".
So where did the heroes go? Are they only in NYC after all?
lol. I told my wife about an article I read last night. At the convention center in New Orleans, they had decided to break into the kitchen and start cooking up the food in the convention center itself, but the national guard unit there told them something like "We'll blow your brains out if you take this food". So I told her "That national guard guy just became food."
I also have this memory of the US federal government responding to the tsunami like the day it happened, or the day after. Here we are on Friday already and what have the feds done? Near as I've been able to tell, precious little, and the governor of Louisiana and the mayor of New Orleans are both bitching about it. New Orleans was depending on the feds to help them, they were told to depend on the feds.
Bet you anything when they rebuild New Orleans they build in anti-FEMA measures in case it gets hit again.
WTC victims: mostly wealthy white people (or at least perceived to be).
By the way, I haven't noticed, but have any of the yahoos like Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell yet stated that Katrina was brought upon New Orleans by God as a punishment for all the decadence and depravity that goes on there?
Yes, people who lived through Camille have been pointing out that even Nixon sent in the Guard and other relief right as soon as the storm passed, like the same day.
This is doggone wack, to make an understatement. (Did you noticed New Orleans' mayor really likes the word "doggone?")
Yes, this is all a great big joke. Richest country in the world .... I'd like to personally thank our wonderful government for their fine planning and reaction to a tragedy that was predicted many many years ago. Wonderful planning guys ...
I can't find the audio, but there were some statements by Aaron Brousard, president of Jefferson Parish a couple days ago saying that he was dictator of Jefferson Parish now and that he was taking control of his parish. He cursed a bit at Bush as well.
I rode out the storm in Mandeville with my fam. We've been cleaning up and securing things the last few days, but living off of a generator is expensive. Plus, our generator can only handle so much, so washing clothes was a pain because the water pump and washing machine couldn't be run at once. Electricity probably won't be on again for another 3-4 weeks in Mandeville. Much, much longer for New Orleans which is where I'd like to end up.
I'm now in Houston, and will be heading to Prague tomorrow while things cool down.
