LMS Tourney?

Re: LMS Tourney?
I know what he meant I was just being bitchy for the sake of it :] But yes indeed, it is hard, but worth it. Though, as you said, too much debate about the settings will probably be detrimental.

Re: LMS Tourney?
I forgot to add, this......is totally unnecessary. To achieve the same effect, leave all the extra accel settings at their default 1, and, in this case, make CYCLE_ACCEL 15.
Speaking of scoring, I suggest something would have to be done about the current score detection as well, to give it legitimacy.
Code: Select all
CYCLE_ACCEL 10
CYCLE_ACCEL_SELF 1.5
CYCLE_ACCEL_TEAM 1.5
CYCLE_ACCEL_ENEMY 1.5
CYCLE_ACCEL_SLINGSHOT 1.5
CYCLE_ACCEL_TUNNEL 1.5Like I said, instead of a "tournament" involving one single server, have a circuit including several different servers in which all players would participate. Just even out the scoring rules, and/or give meta points for placement in a particular server match. Mario Kart, is what I'm saying.Concord wrote:Every server in the tournament should have different settings.

I do that all the time!dubStep wrote:It's about having "competitions" in other game modes than fortress and sumo.
Re: LMS Tourney?
What's wrong with the current default settings?
Haven't seen anyone being against it, yet. Or have I not been looking hard enough?
Edit: forgot Phytotron was here.

Re: LMS Tourney?
My problem with current default settings, as I noted earlier in this thread, is they're different from the preferable default settings found in every version of the game prior to 0.2.8.something.
Re: LMS Tourney?
Well, you're not going to play in it anyway, so people who are gonna play have priority over your opinion.

Re: LMS Tourney?
Illogical statement.
I suppose journalists shouldn't report on or analyse politicians and legislation, government officials and policy, corporations and their practices, musicians and records, artists and works, restaurants and cuisine—unless they actually participate and are actively involved in those processes and endeavors themselves. Nor could anyone organise and seed an amateur or professional sports tournament unless they're active players in said tournament. Right?
Incidentally, with respect to the default settings, my stated opinion of them also stands independent of any tournament.
Now, I'm going to go watch the NCAA Tournament selection show. I'm eager to see if any opinions of the players take priority over the Selection Committee.

Re: LMS Tourney?
Well go ahead and found a selection committee for armagetron tourneys then, and see if anyone decides to play your tourneys.

Re: LMS Tourney?
Good job completely missing the point, bub.
Re: LMS Tourney?
Your comparision might make sense in theory but in practice its ridiculous; this is armagetron. The players who are in this thread, who are GOING to play and WANT to play in this tournament, should have more say in this than you and the other attentionho. If you want to keep making yourself look like a fool and compare armagetron to sports and restaurants then be my guest.
The current settings are fine compguy, I don't think it needs more editing, I look forward to the tourney and I'll definitely participate.

Re: LMS Tourney?
You're going to call anyone else an attention ho? Are you kidding? Get real (if you're even capable, which is certainly questionable).
You didn't you refute (or understand) my point, either. Your assertion that the opinions of someone actively involved in something necessarily or automatically takes de facto analytical or contributive priority over one who isn't, is illogical. (That's the kind of mentality that totalitarians and fascists love.)
Fact is, with exception to subby and Lack, I've been playing this game longer than I think anyone else in this thread, particularly those who are intent on running and participating in this tourney thing. I've worked on servers, including largely designing one of the more popular 'classic LMS' servers this game has seen (Swampy originated it as a small Swampland, but I engineered and "perfected"—his words—the settings to make it what it became). This isn't arrogance, bragging or immodesty; it's a statement of simple "credentials." I know the settings, and I know what makes a good 'LMS' game—a "game mode" that some of you don't even play regularly, if ever—and how to do so without gimmicky or ridiculous settings (high rubber, included). Most of you, I wager, came to this game well after all the zone-based game modes came into being and don't even know what a standard server looks like, let alone appreciate one (without wacky settings like dangling shiny objects). Therefore, I would argue that my input is at least as valid and worthwhile in an advisory capacity as any of yours, if not more so in some cases.
That said, I think we all know that you are not interested in the merits of any argument.

Re: LMS Tourney?
I dont think it is a good idea to host the LMS tournament on the same day as the War Sumo Tournament(WST)compguygene wrote:Thanks for the input. I will be getting a wiki page up, etc.
Not that this pointless LMS tourney will take away some of the sign ups for the WST, but having it on the same day as a previously date decided tourney (WST April 18th, decided a week or so ago) is not the greatest idea.

Re: LMS Tourney?
That date was just a random date I put in, not the date it will be. The page is still a work in progress. I have no intention of having it the same day as any other tourney. That would just take away from both tournaments. I still need to create a couple more pages, and double check the existing calendar. None of that is done yet.

How is this one any more or less pointless than all the others?INW wrote:pointless LMS tourney
Re: LMS Tourney?
Wow, how ignorant. I was actually considering signing up for the WST until I read this. Now I won't regardless of the day.INW wrote:Not that this pointless LMS tourney will take away some of the sign ups for the WST...not the greatest idea.
I'm not sure how anyone with normal cognitive skills can think the LMS tourney is more pointless than the WST, but there is no reason two tournaments can't happen on the same day. Think things through before you post next time. You should apologize so we can move on.
