Re: Future ladles and Ladle 32 discussion
I think it would be fun to do a tournament with teams of 8 once again, maybe not as official as ladle but just to see who would win

Re: Future ladles and Ladle 32 discussion
I totally agree. But here is the thing: when would you schedule it? Always on the weekend opposite of Ladle? And then maybe that conflicts with another tournament on the weekend before or after Ladle? And what about that practice match you scheduled with such-and-such team that week?Rudycantfail wrote:I think it would be fun to do a tournament with teams of 8 once again, maybe not as official as ladle but just to see who would win
This is part of the case for Ladles every other month. There are a lot of cool, fun ideas for tournaments waiting to happen but it's hard to compete with Ladle. FPL barely finished, and those matches took hardly any time to play and could happen on any non-Ladle weekend.
Don't get me wrong. I freaking love the Ladle every month. I look forward to it with earnest. But I also wish there were more, different tournaments going on. WST is a great idea. TST should be more than once a year, right? Check out how much of the Competition Hub is getting used... and there are tons more ideas.
Can the community support 2 tournaments a month? Maybe. I guess more of us should spend time organizing them and find out.

Dude Chico Break Boost Styball tourney who is down!
Re: Future ladles and Ladle 32 discussion
yea and thoes kinds of tournaments can be every once in awhile, just leave Ladle once a month its doing good

Re: Future ladles and Ladle 32 discussion
Alright, I would like to put up something for the next vote: No holes in the ladle. I'm not sure how many others feel the same way, but it seems to me that it has gotten to the point where most defenses are almost camping, and every other round a team holes. It isn't as fun to play as it used to be. My theory is that if we take away holes the teams won't have to defend as hard, creating more interesting fights, and overall being more fun. And to me having fun in the ladle trumps winning the ladle, as only 1 team can win, while everyone should have fun. But maybe that's just me.
If this is the minority view then I will be fine if it stays the same, I just want to throw it out there and see if I am just a crazy loner in my opinion.

I dont think this will work Van-hayes.
We will have arguments over "that hole wasnt on purpose" and "he died trying to get in" and other things of this nature.

I meant removing them in the settings, so if you die there is no explosion. It would be impossible to do no holes and not change the setting.

That is really a bad idea. Holing is sometimes the only option. Also, if you remove the explosions, you are going to create a whole new set of problems for attackers, who use deaths to get through to the other side of the arena.Van-hayes wrote:I meant removing them in the settings, so if you die there is no explosion. Holing really is an important part of the game, IMHO. I am also convinced that the community feels this way as well.
This quote was the result of a similar complaint being lodged in Wild West CTF tourneys. In CTF currently, holing is just considered to be another tool in the arsenal of weapons that CTF teams use. Contrary to what many in this forum seem to think about CTF, there are some pretty advanced tactics and skillz that the best CTF teams are employing. I really think that Fortress is not being hurt by holing. If anything, teams are starting to see that it is difficult to balance a strong defense and strong offense. From a Wild West CTF server wrote:If you complain about holes, you're admitting you can't defend.
Watch the videos that Liz posted of the finals. Both teams used holing effectively. But, that was only one tool in the respective teams arsenal of strategies. Take away holing, and the games will get to be much more boring!

Actually I like the hole size on ED's onslaught server. It is more difficult to hole but not impossible. I would vote yes for smaller holes just to give it a try. But i agree with compguygene for EXPLOSION_RADIUS 0.
And I would vote yes for a little break of 2-3 minutes between matches if a team wants to.

Insa's def (and people who are now def'ing like him) would be unbeatable without holes. Therefore, I vote no; terrible idea for that sole reason.
Re: Future ladles and Ladle 32 discussion
Its not unbeatable...
1. Shrink when its 2v1.
2. Shrink when 1v1 anyway, the defender will grow tired after a bit.
3. Bore the defender.
4. ?????
5. Profit!
Regardless, agreed with Durka, bad idea.

Re: Future ladles and Ladle 32 discussion
Just to clarify. I am against getting rid of holes. Adjusting the blast radius might be a way to go. This was discussed in the TR2NOrigins CTF Tournament topic found here. I am really not a good enough player to offer an opinion on adjusting the BLAST_RADIUS. Honestly, I have enough difficulty getting through holes now.
As to not being able to break a defense without holing, I agree with Vogue that it is not impossible. However, do you really want Ladle matches to take 1.5 to 2 times as long? Without holing, what can be a long match will just take even longer.

I guess I am naive in thinking that without holes people won`t have their closed def the whole time. Oh well, it was just a thought.

Re: Future ladles and Ladle 32 discussion
Don't change the settings to effect tactics, just change your tactics.
Re: Future ladles and Ladle 32 discussion
See its not that I lose due to my tactics, its that I have no fun playing against other people`s tactics if they include never leaving their tail, and the only way to win is to hole faster than the other team can. I mean you can wait it out and shrink them down, or hope they kill themselves but then the round lasts too long. If the only way to win is to take up these tactics it seems like I`d rather lose and have fun doing it. And again the worst part is that I've started seeing this type of def being used in regular play more and more lately. If this were any other mode the player would be kicked for camping.
I guess I'm just nostalgic for when the ladle was more about having fun competitive games than about just winning.
