Random Suggestions (Was: 0.2.8.3.1: What to put into it)
Re: Random Suggestions (Was: 0.2.8.3.1: What to put into it)
Actually, I really like SCORE_WIN + SCORE_SURVIVE for local games. You can do some cool stuff with it. Also, AoT "Advanced Racing" and "Challenge II" use SCORE_SURVIVE. All my other servers had versions with SCORE_SURVIVE.
EDIT: I just thought of something related I would totally change. I never liked the phrase "so-and-so committed suicide". I'm a bit sensitive to the word suicide (I hope you don't think I'm a sissy now). I think I'd like it better if there was something that sounded a little more, well, Tron. For instance, when you die you get core dumped. Is there something a program can do that is the equivalent of suicide? Like a fatal error?

crash?
Ai has changed it to "<Player> made a big mistake" in our servers.

"Player X segfaulted." would be the Unix term. But core dumping is already Unix, maybe there's a Mac specific term we could use?
SCORE_WIN is applied to the last TEAM standing/hitting the win zone/conquering the enemy fortress. SCORE_SURVIVE to each player still standing at the end of the round, whatever ended it. So they're not redundant. But yeah, the "Winner" message can go away if SCORE_WIN is 0.

Is there any potential for more score settings, possibly with multiple conditions.
For example SCORE_KILL_WRT_OPPONENT which would attribute points for killing the opponent with regards to the opponent's score. Maybe a last man standing server where you get 1/2 your opponents score for killing them and they lose half their score for dying.
Just so it didn't get buried.

It hasn't been buried, it has been willfully ignored as the can of worms it is
Stuff like that is far better handled with scripting.

Player 1 core dumped itself.
Re: Random Suggestions (Was: 0.2.8.3.1: What to put into it)
not sure if that wasn't suggested yet,
could you make it possible to export server settings to the clipboard, or to a cfg file, including the map?
Like, when you enter a server you can type something like save_settings and it copies everything and you can paste it using notepad, like a screenshot. this function would be helpful for everyone who is experimenting with new servers.

I am playing with SCORE_SURVIVE as well. I like the effects on the score.sinewav wrote:Actually, I really like SCORE_WIN + SCORE_SURVIVE for local games. You can do some cool stuff with it. In TR2NOrigins Destiny addressed that issue. It's compguygene wiped out. And compguygene ran into a wall.sinewav wrote:EDIT: I just thought of something related I would totally change. I, too, would like the ability to simply export any config changes to a text file that would be created in the var directory. That is, it would only list any settings that are either a) different from default, or b) different from server_name.cfg (or autoexec.cfg) last time it was loaded. Something along those lines, with a command something along the lines of [EXPORT or SAVE]_CONFIG_CHANGES, or whatever.

And since we're on the subject of replacing "committed suicide," how about replacing that "/me has an interesting mental disorder" instachat while at it? Of course idiots are always going to sling around dumbassed and offensive remarks about mental illness (even give themselves nicknames as such ::coughpsyckocough::)), just as they'll use racist, sexist, and homophobic epithets. But it doesn't need to be encouraged with default instachats and such.

Light cycles, mainframe, segfault.
I like "player segfaulted for 0 points" as a suicide message. I'm a big fan of removing all FPS-type references from the game (hence why I like "core dumped" instead of "killed" or "fragged").
Since we're all supposed to be gender-less programs, why not "player cored dumped itself."? No new language needed then, and it's a little quirky if not a tad witty.

This sounds more like the geeky feel of Armageton!Lucifer wrote:Light cycles, mainframe, segfault.
