Ladle 17 - Seeded teams or no seeded teams?
Moderator: Light
Randomizing the slots may already handle randomizing servers at the same time. (to a certain extent)
If the servers for each matchup is pre-determined and slots are random, the server will also be random because the server you play in will be what ever slot you end up in.
This would at least be less work than randomizing each slot and randomizing the server for each matchup...
Just as an idea I made a server config so that there are equal US & Euro servers. Every team has to go thru at least one US & one Euro server to get to the final. This would really test a team's ability to play on both US & Euro servers. Perhaps something like this would make teams try to put together a roster with good US/Euro balance. A big enuff team could even opt to have different roster for each server if the rules allow it...

I'm lovin that idea 1200. It seems by far the fairest way to go.1200 wrote:Just as an idea I made a server config so that there are equal US & Euro servers. Yes, I will be executing the random team command and kyle will be executing the random server command. Freako and others will be there to supervise and we will also post the logs since this will all take place in #armagetron (irc.freenode.net).kyle wrote:around 14:30 GMT tomorrow for the picking of teams and those servers?
In the case that Luke-Jr is unwilling to lend us his server, we will just use Republik's server (which worked mighty fine during the TST).
I'm not sure that's the best way
at least in semifinals each pair of teams should be able to choose whether to play in an euro or usa server. eg we could fix <z-man's or luke's> and <ct or ww>
this way we avoid matches like wrd vs tr in an euro serv, or kod vs x in a usa serv
same, for the final
well, 1200's idea points to be fair... I dunno what to think exactly

I agree mostly. I think the possibility of two American and tow Euro teams facing each other in the semi finals is quite slim, but if it does happen, then I think we can assume to have everyone on a home server. I think that's the only case where we should make an exception. But even if two American teams play in a Euro server, neither team gains an advantage. Great idea 1200.hoop wrote:...at least in semifinals each pair of teams should be able to choose whether to play in an euro or usa server.

Ok, there's about 30 minutes left until we do the drawing and this is what we're going to do:
- There's 9 teams so we'll randomly assign all 9 teams a number from 1-9. Team 8 will play Team 9 at 6:45pm GMT and the winner will play Team 1 at the usual Ladle start time of 7:30pm GMT. At that time the other 3 matches will take place as well (Team 2 vs Team 7, Team 3 vs Team 6, and Team 4 vs Team 5).
- The servers will be randomized, kinda. Yes 1200 and I are getting a little obsessed over the "unfairness" of not having enough American servers, but we still want to maintain a fun tournament. This new rule will only be valid for the Semi-Finals (and Finals): If both teams are over 50% European, they will play in either Z-Man's Fortress or CT Ladle Fortress (the Challenge Board will be updated later today to clearly explain the scenario so there will be no confusion). Likewise, if both team are over 50% North American, then they will play in either Wild West Fortress or Luke-Jr/R3publik's Fortress (depending on Luke-Jr's willingness to lend us a server).
- However, if the majority of one of the teams is European, while the majority of the other team is North American, then they will play in the server that will be randomly selected in about 30 minutes.
- Note that this rule will also be applied to the Finals, not just the Semi-Finals.
- Since there are 3 NA Teams and 6 Euro Teams, it might be clear after the random picks that it's impossible for one of the scenarios to occur. To limit confusion, the Challenge Board will try and be as simple as possible when expressing the server situation.
- Also, since there has been a lot of jumbling around of teams, the Challenge Board will stay unlocked until the usual time of 23:59 GMT on the day before the Ladle (Saturday the 6th).

Thanks, but you edited it completely wrong. I'll re-edit it right now.Monkey wrote:I've edited the Ladle challenge board accordingly.
EDIT: Ok I fixed it. Please take a look at it:

only problem with that is there are some american servers that i lag even more on then european ones so make sure the american ones are stable...
I can tell you I played on WW last ladle, it was almost unplayable for me as an american. Even with a little sympathy I know that europeans can't stand it. (I think it was luzifer that had 400 ping or something like that)
