.. anyway, when is the next one going to be? Do we stick with the second sunday of the month? That would mean the 9th of November. Too soon?

That is a good question. Personally, I think that once a month is too often anyway. I think that maybe once every two or three months would be better. It would make the tournament more special. More people would turn up. People would have more time to get organised, practice and prepare. We have lots of gaps anyway and the rules arent exactly written in stone. What does everyone else think?

one thing I don't like is the fact that you can choose the spot for your team.
IMO the fate should decide that

I vote for one more Ladle this year.

The new fort clans need a little time to get themselves in order for fort. I am being as pushy and interfering with them as I can get away with but it still takes time. Even without this fact, my vote would still be for one more this year. Quality > quantity.

The Ladle that we just had was the best yet and I think that part of that (maybe just a small part) was due to the large gap that we had.

On the subject of new fort clans/players, there will certainly be enough people for more than 8 teams next Ladle. The WRD team (WildWest+Republik+ID) was a success, they loved the Ladle. I am trying to get the three clans to get more of their members playing fort so that they can each enter one team (there may be a need to top up with a small number of non clan members but this is looking to be less and less likely). I have been (and still am) speaking to some other clans and non clanners too (although I doubt that any of those will be able to enter an *entire* team). I am now fairly sure that we will be able to have a Ladle with 10 or even 12 teams, where each team is sure to bring 8 players on Ladle day. Of course, I will know more about this as more time passes.

If we did this, we would need to have an extra stage, where some teams would get a bye through to the quarter finals. I also think that it would be a good idea if each "new to fort" team were to play another "new to fort" team for their first match. What are people's thoughts and opinions on all of this?

I vote for December 7, 2008.

As far as the amount of teams goes, hopefully it would look something like this:

1. CT
2. |X|
3. TR
4. DS
5. MC (or whatever team hoop puts together)
6. OT 1 (Lack's open team)
7. OT 2 (1200's open team)
8. WW + others
9. Rep + ID + others

That will make 9 teams. To encourage the WRD group to get excited and involved, it would be cool if they played each other as a "play-in" game. Not only will this create good competition for the new coming teams, but they won't have to go against a team like CT or |x| in the first round. Otherwise, if 2 teams get byes in the first round, that's a bit unfair to choose which teams. Unless, we just pick the finalists of the last ladle.

Also, I liked hoop's idea of not choosing a spot for your team to play. I think that the teams should just signup and the Sunday before, I'll legitimately pick teams out of a hat for the respective matchups. IMO, it's very unfair for the european teams to get to play in euro servers all the team in every Ladle. This will possibly throw them in that "damned" WW server first round ;). The other alternative would be to alternate the server that the finals takes place in for every Ladle.

Just some ideas.

I like the random slottage styleee to make things fairer.
It would also be fairer if there were equal number of US & Euro servers in the first round & the semis and the server that hosts the finals will be chosen out of the hat as well.

I like random team slots too. Maybe we could have a seeding system like many sports do so that the best teams don't meet each other early on?

I personally don't care if I play on a Euro or USA server. I do, however, have issues with Wild West servers because the version that they use is so old that it lacks many features, including /lock, /invite, /teams, you can't have more than 16 people in the server, less /admin commands, etc.

If you guys are happy being put against any team then thats fine. I wouldn't say that you have any/many experienced fortress players though.

In all honesty, Koz were probably the second weakest team in the Ladle, due to not having PsYkO, Whatup and eggcozy. My *only* concern is that if you guys get beat up bad in the next Ladle, it will put some of you off fortress. As long as you guys stick with fortress then that's cool. I am *really* glad that you guys enjoyed it btw.

Republik and ID do not need to team up because they will each have enough players to make a squad/team. In the worst case, they may need to add one or two random people but from what I am seeing at the moment this is looking unlikely. I confidently predict that both will have 8 players on Ladle day. We will be testing this anyway with some practice matches well before the Ladle.

NS (Never surrender) is a newish clan that have 15 very active members. They have told me that they can play fort and I have watched a couple of them play it and it seems that they can. Ratchet, their leader, was in my team for the Ladle and he played well. He wants to put a team in for the next Ladle. The main concern with their team is maturity, although going on certain events that happened this Ladle with other teams, I think that they may as well put a team in. Again, we will test with some practice matches well before the Ladle.

Quite a few other people have told me that they want to play in the next Ladle too. Just in the last 3 days: Compugene, delarge, uffie, members of dBd and more. In fact, half of them actually approached me about it, not the other way round. It is possible that we could have 12 teams next Ladle. We will see what happens over the next few weeks.

My current prediction for teams is:

1. CT
2. |X|
3. TR
4. DS
5. MC (or whatever team hoop puts together)
6. OT 1 (Lack's open team)
7. OT 2 (1200's open team)
8. WW (maybe + others)
9. Rep
10. ID
11. NS (maybe + others)
12. OT 3 (another open team)
Playing since December 2006
