yeap, definitely think it's worth being ignored by the creator over, uh, wait... i mean *mailing* the creator over. i don't have a pessimistic bone in my body.

btw, i think modern video cards have different kinds of anti-aliasing options built-in that may even work with programs you specify in a list. there should be a control panel for your video card, at least i believe there is such for the large nvidia line...

btw, zaphod over at VPF has an interesting hypothesis:

I have figured out the true growth algorithm.

"Pruning the side" is not possible. All extensions on the left are mirrored on the right, and vice versa. therefore, only top vs bottom makes a difference. Also if you prune both top and bottom they BOTH grow!

The initial configureation is one core, 4 pieces with two joints each, with a weapon on each joint.

UNless you are god, you will be unable to avoid destroying at least one cannon. the First cannon you destroy on the piece sets which way that side (front or rear) of the boss grows.

Code: Select all

 A A
B1 2B
  x
C3 4C
 D D
You destroy either of the A cannons before destroying a B cannon, then A is extended, and b is not If you destroy B before A, then the Bs are extended, and the as are not (even if you also destroy the as)

if you blast b and d, then the bottom gets extended down AND the top bets extended sideways. The other two possible extensions don't happen.

If you manage to destroy neither c nor d, then the bottom will not be extended at ALL. It pays to avoid destroying those four original bottom cannons as long as possible! [/b]

that seems fairly right, by "pruning the sides" i do mean pruning one side and that both sides grow outwards (almost the same as he says, but not quite) as opposed to backwards or forwards (up/down).

i'm also still pretty sure that if you prune diagonally you get all limbs extended - which is kind of disappointing as pruning diagonally is hard to do so i kinda hoped there would be some reward for it.

if he's talking about a, b, c and d as extensions of 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively i thinks he's right even though i'm not completely sure - i think these rules change slightly at higher levels

i've taken a break from wf for a while now but i remember experimenting with simply taking 1 limb down and then the core but not sure what it resulted in (i think it resulted in the same as diagonal pruning but i'm not sure anymore) - this conflicts with what he's saying btw *not sure i'm right* :D

More observations.

There is a limit to how large the boss can grow at any stage. IF you reach the limit the obss won't get any bigger until you reach the stage that lifts the limit. You can see that principle at work in my replay, and I abused it like a MOFO. :)

All parts of the boss are grouped into either limbs or joints. A limb is attached to one part only, a joint is attached to more than one.

destroying a joint has NO effect on boss expansion, destroying a limb causes it to be replaced by a joint, with one or more limbs attached to it. If it starts as a joint, then if you prune it to a limb later, no more can be added onto it anyway.

All cannons are limbs. all pieces with cannons on them are joints.

Under some circumstances, a piece can be a limb that is not a cannon. Usually this is due to earlier pruning. These pieces can fire vulcan shots without having a cannon on them when nothing else is firing at the time. That is why the core fires at you as soon as everything else is blasted. it has become a limb. That is why empty core links will fire at you instead of the core.

You can also, end uo with pieces that start with no weapons on them, and are limbs. These do not fire at you. You will see some in my replay. Usually these ae big pieces.

It is possible to destroy the core without destroying ANY limbs. IF you do this, the boss cannot grow! it's expansion is halted, and only search gets bigger. do this as much as possible! I managed three times in my replay.
attached are his REC files: "glorious road to 22".

EDIT: and the 1.04 update is just a bugfix for the new PAUSE button.

any of you guys put background music to this game yet? I have only made it to level 10 in the week I have been playing it but I added the theme from "Mission Impossible" (the oiginal) to my background, sounds really cool...

still can't figure out how to switch weapons on a 2 button joystick
