Re: How did you get started in Armagetron
is that a kayak in your pocket
or you just pleased to see me
hey guys,i was out in it the other night, nice sunset, and i was still a mile and a half out,
and as it got dark,i could see two green glowing lines coming from the front of the kayak
and from every paddle splash aswell
it was like installing a movie pack on me kayak
it comes from an algae in the water at this time of year--wonderful
or you just pleased to see me

Re: How did you get started in Armagetron
I found the game in the add/remove programs in Ubuntu and tried it. Still like to play it, and I will probably always like to play it. Actually, I had heard of the original Armagetron a long time ago, but my computer was to old and would not have been able to handle it.
We are talking a very old computer, I am glad I have upgraded.

Linux is the future, do not fight it, go with it. If your computer is fast or slow Linux is the way to go.

Re: How did you get started in Armagetron
i'm gonna read everyone else's after i've written mine
give a response then...
how did i find arma?
random search for game on apple.com when i moved into a new flat with new internet connection
was AMAZED that i could get online so easily and play
first games were individual
and then i found a game of fortress
and that was it
i remember learning with vanhayes and garrisimo and what's-his-name...?
and of course i learned a lot from playing against other players
but these guys were really helpful
i remember after a right-split from launch once
being the last i glanced up-grid
and the view was tremendous:
the launch continuing then the players splitting one by one
and our position 1 just hurtling along...
one of the best views in the game
i contacted z-man and tank-program
and engaged them in an email discussion
(sadly lost those emails)
asking them what their plans were for the game
and they confirmed their commitment to open-source
so
with that
i allowed myself to be addicted to the game
because i know my time spent on the grid will not be wasted
it won't be sold out to anyone
it's as free as a game of chess or GO
it's a gift
it's a past-time
and a sport
it's a game-changer
skills i learned in that first year
i still had when i returned after a gap-year
that smacks of 'classic' if you ask me
thanks to z-man and the developers
and every player i've played with and gone against
give a response then...

Re: How did you get started in Armagetron
Well, my wife was finishing her University studies and working at the same time 6-7 years ago. I was only working and i was doing all the University homework, tesis, etc for her. I was really bored and i found this game in some place and started to play it when i was taking a rest. I played medium rubber (10-20).
In 2005 i moved to other home and i stopped to play 1 year. When i returned i realize there were a lot of new servers with colorful names, and i started to play sumo and fortress.

Re: How did you get started in Armagetron
Found a list of open source games, clicked randomly without scrolling down the list. I happened to click on 'Armagetron Advanced' and never tried anything else after that. I think it was around early 2006, played it for a few days, then it got lost after reformatted, but a few months later I was bored and remembered it was fun and found it after searching for quite a bit! Couldn't remember the damn name hehe..

Found a party with a bunch of drugs, and randomly took some without asking what it was. It happened to be acid and never tried anything else after that. I think it was around early 2006, tripped for a few days, then got lost in the woods, but a few months later I was bored and remembered it was fun and found it after searching for quite a bit! Couldn't remember the damn name hehe.
Re: How did you get started in Armagetron
My friend and I downloaded the game with the intention of deleting it after a few hours of procrastination; he ended up playing for a week, and I for four years
We started playing in his private servers because we got kicked from all the public ones for being awesome (this was before the whole "suspend, don't kick" thing became fashionable). Then he quit, leaving me with the options of either quitting or looking for a public server to play in. I joined Nexus9, played for a year or two as bubbletea, then transitioned to fortress and sumo because many of the n9 regulars back then were active fortress players as well.
