Alright, here is a new proposal, based on what you said.

So say we get to have 15 players in all (I'm counting 13 so far) we can split them into 3 groups and have each group play a match 3 times.

And then we award points like this:

* 4 points for the overall winner
* 3 points for second best
* 2 points for third best
* 1 points for the rest (rewarding their participation, as 0 would be a forfeit)

This is from the standard gamefest rules: http://www.libervis.com/wiki/index.php? ... nts_system

It is good to follow this points system because that allows us to standardize better. The points accumulated by the AA tournament winner will be what will weigh his/her chances of winning the Universal title (and with that the universal prize). :)

Since there are two stages, the 3 groups playing 3 matches in each group among themselves could be qualifications with which we would determine the chart based on which from each group 2 players may be disqualified, which is 6 players. We're then left with 7 players to play yet another last batch of 3 matches as a final tournament, of which the one with most points wins AA.

So.. in short:

Qualifications:

- 15 players | 3 groups of 5
- Each group plays 3 matches among themselves
- Points accumulated by each player put them into a chart for each group (three charts).
- Each group disqualifies 2 weakest players based on these charts

Progressing to the second stage: 7 remaining players.

Final tournament stage:

- 7 players
- 3 matches, all among themselves
- Count up the points, chart them up and we have our winner, as well as second and third place.

All the time the mode played would be LMS.

That's basically it. So what do you think?

So, what do you guys say on the above?

Shall I proceed to draft up the guidelines based on that?

Thanks

On IRC epsy pointed out that the Armagetron community is rather split in terms of modes they like to a point that some would not play it if it was LMS or others if it was Sumo. Basically it would turn out that whichever way we go we could alienate some potential players.

Still... I suppose since time is short and we have to make a stand perhaps best thing we can do is stick with the above. If nobody else minds it and more of you like it, I will put it into guidelines.

That said, the last official press release is out: http://www.freedomware-gamefest.com/fin ... nouncement

And we're trying to have one last promotional burst to get as many players in as possible before November 20 after which we wont be accepting new players except in special circumstances and as backup players.

So anyone in for Arma please sign up now. Anyone who likes the above described way of organizing it, get in today! All you have to do is post here: http://www.nuxified.org/topic/sign_up_h ... he_tourney saying that you'd like to play Armagetron.

In the meantime please help spread the word about gamefest. Just at least vote for us on Slashdot: http://slashdot.org/firehose.pl?op=view&id=384253 and FSDaily: http://www.fsdaily.com/EndUser/Freedomw ... mes_begin/

Getting slashdoted will be a boon to us! I'm crossing my fingers we get there. ;)

Cheers

Epsy's right, but I think the danger of alienation is pretty small. It just means you won't have those people sign up for this tournament. The community's too large to be able to reasonably expect to please everybody with one tournament, so do what makes the most sense for the freedomware gaming tournament and let the cards fall where they may. :) There will be other tournaments, and it is possible to please everybody given enough time.

OK, I drafted up the rules: http://www.libervis.com/wiki/index.php? ... Tournament

You can comment on it, and we can still change some details, but the basics will stay the same: LMS tournament, 3 matches per group in qualifications and a final stage with 3 matches between who is left qualified.

The possibility is open for one or two of the last three final tournament matches to be changed to harder, more challenging settings if the players involved agree to do so.

Please confirm your participation in the armagetron tourney here so we're sure you're up for it: http://www.nuxified.org/topic/confirm_p ... ournaments

Is there a possibility to change the settings? I'm not sure what the ratio highrubberplayers/nonhighrubber players is among the signups but personally I'd much rather see something like this:

rubber <5 (instead of 35)
cycle delay 0.1 (instead of 0.01)
finite tail length (instead of infinite)

When will the tournament be played? Just on one day or more?
Because I can't confirm I'll play until I have an idea of the day/time...
Winner of the How Many Pages Before The Lock® competition and a grand total of 18,93 euros in Euromillions.

I don't think any of "them" signed up.

You can see a nice chart of all that did sign up and confirmed (in bold) here: http://www.nuxified.org/topic/chart_of_ ... n_gamefest

Since AA has been the last considered for the fest we're still ironing out the rules, although it should really be finalized by the end of the week.

I'm not sure who of the registered players are highrubber or low rubber, but what I've been suggested multiple times was to have a "newbie friendly" tournament and that this would then involve high rubber.

Now, since the sign ups have (at least officially) closed, we could just go and poll everyone who signed up as to which they prefer most and then set it like that. We're not necessarily expecting any new registrations now anyway so we might as well please the majority of those who DID register. :)

Btw, you can read some of the latest proposals about Arma tourney here: http://www.nuxified.org/topic/organizin ... ment-11124

You don't need to read all of the big posts in that topic. I believe I summed up the issues and proposals in my own post.

Do you also have shooters with 10x normal health to make them beginner-friendly?

I'm sure everyone has their arguments for their preferences. If it was a clear majority for either preference then there'd be no question about it.

So high rubber or low rubber, it finally depends on those who are registered to participate, and those are listed in the Armagetron Advanced Tournament section here: http://www.nuxified.org/topic/chart_of_ ... n_gamefest

Let's make up our minds about this already!

Please vote on rubber settings here: http://www.nuxified.org/poll/rubber_set ... tournament

It's open only for those who are registered, as listed in a comment below the poll. Yes I'll check who voted! ;)

Please vote this within two days so we can start with AA qualifications next week (other games are starting even sooner).

Cheers
