Yeah, though sometimes I wish Kurt Cobain would still be there and the likes of Bono, Britney Spears and Justin
Bieber wouldn't :P . Nirvana would be less famous, but they'd be ten times better than the Foo Fighters (which I like as well, but not that much). I can't recommend the Sliver album highly enough...it just shows what a great band Nirvana is even if they don't really try.

Plus I like that he used these lyrics by Neil Young for his suicide note.

Fixed. Unlike Pete Burns's face these days. (Take that as more sad than mean.)

Nah, they always sucked, and weren't at all original (same for the Foo Fighters, in both respects). One of the most overrated bands of the period, at least. The hype just got super-amplified after he blew his head off, as it usually does—especially with quick-burning, self-destructive celebs. Would people really be as fascinated and obsessed with Marilyn Monroe had she died of old age, her tits sagging and bags under her eyes like so many other starlets and bombshells of the era? Doubt it. It's supremely pathetic the degree to which self-destructive people are glorified, romanticized, revered, even deified in our culture, even if they actually produce very little, in quantity and quality—as often opposed to those who lead long, full, productive lives.

And that some people, like you apparently expressed, who actually enjoy the suicide note? That's messed up.

Furthermore, how do you know they would have gone on to make greater music (even if you believe Nirvana was good)? How do you know they would have even stayed together? For Kurt to have even survived he would've had to quit that rockstar crap and go get some treatment, and stuck with it. For all you know, that may have been it. Just another burned out rock star. If they or he would've gone on to continue making music, it's every bit as likely they would have sunk even further into mediocrity, as so many big rock bands do—the being the norm, actually. But senseless fans always do this, always assume "oh my god, imagine what [Jim, Jimi, Janis, Kurt, et al] would be doing today! It would blow our minds!" Probably not, and we have examples in all those who did live. I don't even need to name them; you know it if you take two seconds to think about it.
