STFU, Poke. You guys seriously have no clue.

Anyway, back to conversations involving people with brains....

Hard drive?! Pah! Vinyl, man!

Hmm, don't much care for the 8-bit Slint. I feel like there are some things that shouldn't be messed with, that are as good as they could ever be, and doing so can only diminish them. I'd say that's the case here. Also in this case takes a rather heavy song and just makes it silly. Besides, it's just not good; can't touch the original. By the way, why are all but one frowning in the pic?

Not sure I like many of these 8-bit remakes, actually, at least as concerns good songs; they seem to like to pick the best songs, which they almost invariably ruin. "21st Schizoid Man," another that simply can't approach living up to the original.

The one of Joy Division's "Disorder" is funny, though. Like, weren't they already kinda 8-bit?

Incidentally, why do your youtube links say youtu.be, and then when I open them change to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVgWDpmN ... e=youtu.be?

I always thought that Nirvana kinda started that type of music, but I was way off after searching the interwebs for a bit. :/

On topic: The Real Group - Pass The Jazz (Live Nyhetsmorgon 2009) My favorite a cappella group by far. <3 them.

I'm not quite sure what it would be called. Kind of gritty music. Distortion, power chords, I don`t know how to explain it. Maybe grunge? I don't want to lump them both together, since they don't sound quite the same, although there are some aspects of it that sound the same

They only sound different to you because you are listening with "different" ears. Because you are so familiar with "guitar music" you can notice subtle differences. And they are subtle, believe me. Someone raised in another country with a strong sense of their culture's music wouldn't really be able to tell the difference between Metalica and R.E.O. Speedwagon. It would just sound like "electric guitar music." Don't believe me? Try listening to Chinese folk music and see if it doesn't all sound the same to you. Of course, those Chinese folk artists can definitely discriminate between the subtleties in their own music.

Don't get hung up on sub-genres. Stretch your mind to be genre-free. Learn to take a reductionist view of music. Eventually you'll only start hearing the frequencies between notes!

Did you notice the Low section in the bin pic I attached on the previous page?

Too bad they're Mormons.

I feel your pain; it did the same damn thing to me back when it came out. And I hated it. And I hate you for bringing it up again! DIE!

And no, Nirvana didn't start anything except a hype machine, a completely ahistorical conception of music (the insipid and pernicious "the 80's were nothing but dance pop and hair metal suckiness, and then Nirvana arrived out of nowhere as a breath of fresh air to bring back rock" mythology, not to mention the corporate invention of the word "grunge"), and an annoying cult of personality.
