0.2.8_beta3: release process and bugs
Windows, right? Isn't this the timer problem? The next beta (hopefully coming out in the next couple of days or so) should do better, it has for me anyway. (I'm running cvs code right now) It'll have a nice message when you connect saying "Syncing with server..." and the screen stays blank while it does so. Takes a few seconds, then shows you the grid and is very stable.
Now, I am getting some weird ping spikes and I don't know right now if they're caused by the client or conditions on the internet. I'm going to be recording a session here pretty soon hoping to catch both that and lost console messages.

The lag bug in beta3 does not affect the displayed ping, Dave's problem may be related to this report:

Yep, there are F1–F15 keys on desktop keyboards, and F1–F12 on laptop keyboards. Your source looks mostly correct for US keyboards. The "reset" button isn't present on today's keyboards. It could be used to turn your computer on, or when it's on to bring up a dialog with options such as "shut down", "restart", "sleep" and "cancel". Modifier keys could be used to immediately do something, including forced restart. Today an eject key is put in its place. It won't turn on your computer, but with modifiers you can use it for most power purposes. Laptops still have a power button near the eject key. On desktop keyboards three separate volume keys have been added.z-man wrote:About the screenshot key: You've got the mac keyboard, you tell us what to doDoesn't the mac have some extra function keys, F13 to F15?
My source, I don't know how old it is:

Looks like F13 would be a natural choice. Considering that laptops probably don't have that one either, the only thing left would be backspace.
Use of F keys:
Laptop:
F1: make screen darker
F2: make screen brighter
F3: mute
F4: lower volume
F5: increase volume
F6: num lock (turns part of the keyboard into a numpad, and so does holding fn down)
F7: Mirror or span on the external screen. Just a quick way to do it; in "System Preferences" you have full control.
Laptop with keyboard lighting:
F8: turn on/off (like mute)
F9: darker
F10: brighter
Desktop:
F14: decrease screen brightness
F15: increase screen brightness
Use fn to emit an actual F1–F10. This trick can be reversed, which I did.
Default binds (not everything is reachable as easily with keyboard lighting):
F9: Exposé show all windows
F10: Exposé show app windows
F11: Exposé expose desktop
F12: Dashboard
So it's quite populated, but note that 'software' binds (F9–F12) don't have effect when an app has the screen (e.g. is fullscreen).
I can try to draw my keyboards if you like.

There is no F13 key on my laptop, either. Choosing F9-F11 is not an option because Expose has those keys, and expose is active in window mode. Ideally it would be shift-esc-3, mimicking the real take screenshot combo. I say go with F13, laptop users will just have to change that key.
Edit: or F1? A large share of Mac owners use laptops.
Also, is there a setting to disable to custom_camera starting really close to your cycle at the beginning of the round, and then zooming out? My camera is set to be more above my cycle than the default, and I can't see anything zoomed in like that.
Edit: Nevermind about the camera, the settings are already there.

I made a little image of an "Apple Pro Keyboard" and the keyboard of my PB, both NL versions. That little circle is the power button.
Edit: The laptop one has a little error with ~.
Edit 2: Found that I left it open in the editor. Fixed it.

Jonathan: that was slightly more information than requested, thanks!
Nemo: F1 is already used for instant chat. I took F13 for now. With PNG screenshots, we don't want people to hit the instant lag button accidentally anyway

Yes, of course. Set CAMERA_CUSTOM_ZOOM to 0. While you're at it, experiment with CAMERA_CUSTOM_TURN_SPEED. I found a value of 1 or 2 to be quite mesmerizing, as long as I was not trying to winnemostultae wrote:Also, is there a setting to disable to custom_camera starting really close to your cycle at the beginning of the round, and then zooming out?
