It appears that my ISP was suffering some sort of problem last night. Calling them up there was a 25 person waiting line on tech support at 21:30. Hardly normal you'd think. The problem manifested itself as roughly 50% packet loss. I shut everything off for a while to give all my systems a bit of a rest. Naturally with lots and lots of packet loss I was bouncing on and off online the entire time I was on until the problem was sorted out. Since the mail server for the forums is at home... You get the idea. The thing everyone needs to remember is that your message still posts when you get the SMTP error. Sorry for the inconvienence, but it was out of my hands.

Yeah, it also posts when the Submit button is pressed but the browser indefinitely stalls. That is to say, don't hit esc to stop loading and then hit Submit again. That's what I did last time. But damn, Jonathan, it's not like people do it deliberately. Accidents and brain farts happen; it's a fact of life.Tank Program wrote:The thing everyone needs to remember is that your message still posts when you get the SMTP error.
It doesn't post every time your browser stalls, there are times when it doesn't post.
Such as, if, say, the web server were to lose its internet connectivity while you're writing your post.
Of course, the solution is to open a new tab and just hit the forum homepage, not to hit escape and click submit again.

Yes, I know, but sometimes you think to yourself, "well, maybe connectivity was lost somewhere and the post didn't register. So, well, I'll just go ahead and go the easy route and instead of opening a new tab and checking the topic to see if it did in fact post, I'll just stop the load and hit submit again, cause maybe I'm a little lazy and not too bright all the time."Lucifer wrote:It doesn't post every time your browser stalls, there are times when it doesn't post.Such as, if, say, the web server were to lose its internet connectivity while you're writing your post.

Of course, then it stalls again, you hit esc, and only then go back to the topic manually and see the double post. And then have to take the extra step of editing that doubled post to say, "oops, sorry, double post." And then someone makes a post about double posting, and there are replies about it, and we go in a big loop.
Sometime when I'm cooking I wipe my hands on the dish towel and then proceed to throw it in the trash. Sometimes I get up, walk into the other room to get or do something, and then have no idea why I walked in there in the first place. Sometimes I stick a cigarette in my mouth backwards and light the filter. Sometimes people put their glasses on their foreheads and then proceed to berate everyone around as to where they hid the glasses.
My point: people f-up or do stupid things sometimes, and in this case it's so incredibly insignificant when they do. Get over it.
On the other hand, if someone can get 2020 to stop typing the way he does, I'll recant all of this.
Sometimes, when I click a certain bookmark in my toolbar, I can choose "open in new tab...", and it is in fact easier to do then hitting stop and submit.
