I just don't understand. What do you get out of these types of posts? Do you like to ignite anger in people? Do you like to be part of the problem? Or do you want to try to drag someone down into the low life that you have in hopes of making them appear as if they are at the same level as you?

I've been thinking about this kind of topic for a while, but think about this:
We are children of divorce and victims of dysfunction
We spell check of course and GPS the proper junction
We've gotten pretty good at shifting all the blame

Meaning that we've all suffered some troubles in the past. So all I ask is stop spreading more dysfunction, by DDoS, by holding the grudges of the past, or by purposefully annoying other players. Just play this game and have fun playing it. Trust me you'll have more benefit in the future by doing this, the server owners won't have to waste the time configuring and setting up new ones in hopes of getting away from the DDoS, the community will be more positive, giving developers of the past more reason to work on the game again. It'll spread more opportunity for the next generation to learn to program. If the dysfunction continues, there are no benefits. The game won't die, it will just make more people irritated. Lets all be in it together to mend our pasts and be part of a solution for the next generation so they don't have to suffer too.

To me, trolls are just ego-cripples who can't cope with the idea that they aren't the center of the universe and use the internet to distract themselves from their real problems. They are a destructive force that intentionally angers people, myself included, and it's pretty difficult to empathize with them, though I guess as long as they don't kill people in a mass shooting or cause a plane to crash, perhaps we should have some tolerance (compassion?) when all they do is posting a few spongebob memes every now and then. It's kind of tragic if they expect people to thank them for what they understand as "trying to fit in", which won't happen since they don't even know what that means and not least because the majority does so without causing problems for the rest of his/her respective community. We can only see the pathetic result of a person, not what led to it; but like kyle said, that's no justification to keep annoying everyone else.

I feel partially responsible for LittleStep's behaivor here. In addition to the already mentioned abandoned coding help, I also inquired about his involvement in the account hijacking a while back. It was not meant as an accusation, but apparently he read it as such. I meant to apologize, but that also fell off the table. So, here: sorry for that, too. Please don't go back to your spamtroll self.

Edit for continuation, that first bit had to go out before LittleSteps' cooldown ended:
If you want to know about their identities, look at the ladle100-recordings. I think I remember Rookie, LittleSteps, Savage and Tweezie all played. And apart from that daft faux-ghetto slang, their forum behaviour is distinct enough. The swag name was worn by several of them over time, I strongly suspect a Dread Pirate Roberts thing. I have almost zero actual information on that Zulu persona.

[Anonymous] and LittleSteps have been mostly good last year, IMHO. LittleSteps much more so than [Anonymous]. What bugs me about [Anonymous] more than the occasional nasty attack or trolling, actually, are his random zero-information posts ("I agree!").

/dev/null... yeah, I wanted to make my mind up about him.

Tweezy... I'm afraid I we may have to do both a forum and master server ban on his accounts and main IP. He is acting so much like he's behind the DDoS attacks that I no longer care whether he actually is. My only reservation is that such a ban is but a mere nuisance to the dedicated troublemaker. But it's less work to set up than it is for him to circumvent, so I don't mind much. Your thoughts?

People have been banned left, right, and facking centre for sexism, threats, etc, etc, and this guy isn't for downright racism?

What is it these forums need from them?

Go for it, doubt anyone will be sad in the slightest to see him even a little less often.

As an old man, I got no time for this kind of tomfoolery. If it was up to me I would hand out IP bans like Halloween candy. This is an open-source project. This is a game. If you are not contributing positively for the benefit of all, you really have no business being here. The fact that Internet Trolls derive pleasure from causing trouble is reason enough to fight them without limits. Civilized society doesn't allow that kind of behavior. When you act that way on the street they lock you up.

This forum and userbase is old and established and can weather a lot of inconveniences. I would even go as far as disabling all posts until they are moderator approved, and applying that policy indefinitely. I know that would be impractical, but I would support it. Heck, it might even save time since so many posts need to be cleaned up anyway.

I think we all need https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FOUqQt3Kg0 just a little bit.

Nobody is banned for sexism. And racism isn't the problem here, it's just the chosen form of expression. It's plain trolling. Still bannable, of course.

Sorta right. I'm a bit annoyed that my toolset is limited. I can talk, I can remove stuff and I can ban. What I really would like to do is what sinewav suggests, only in limited form: I'd like to be able to put specific users and threads under heavy moderation, where a moderator's approval is required for them to post or for everyone to post in the specific thread. And I'd generally put new users under probation for their first five posts or so. But I can't do that, so they got me cornered to the point where the only thing I can do is ban.

What can we do to help? I know Tank Program only checks the forum annually. Do you anticipate any limits to phpBB3? It it time to move or restructure these forums?

The bright side of all this is that the remaining players what aren't complete screwballs are clever and enthusiastic. I'm sure we can come up with a good solution.

I'll say it through a megaphone so I'm not within swinging distance when your eyes read the words, but:

Durf might have some innovative solutions (and insight) to the types of problems Z-man is facing. I still remember the ache I had from being forced to live with his nonsense but, in retrospect, I think he was a good person to have around and I certainly think he should be given the opportunity to contribute to this game.

I'm sure Z-man still has ethical/moral issues with that, just a thought. He seems like a good kid at heart. I can't say the same about some of these other morons who haven't received the same treatment as Durf.
