Re: Tronathlon
Mudpuddle is not Loose Dogfight, lol.
Put any low rubber "pro" in a LDF server full of DF "pros" and it would be a slaughter for the poor low rubber player.
If anything, the DF/HR players would have an advantage in this type of tournament. From what I've noticed from playing both game modes is that the higher rubber players have much more control over their movements which translates rather easily to lower rubber games.
Also, just because you don't agree with the way the rules are managed in higher rubber game modes doesn't mean they are bad. They could have the same argument about us -- "you didn't even kill that person in sumo and you still got the point". Both human and computer officiating have their flaws, but neither is better than the other.

Re: Tronathlon
Sine wav... so you are telling me that the time you entered the DF server, u happened to be faced up against goood dog fight opponents?
Re: Tronathlon
I'm not really sure why you linked to mud puddle for this.sinewav wrote:You're right because after 6 years I've never once been in a HR/Loose/DF server and obliterated everyone in it.![]()
You could enforce it the same way DFT rules were enforced, which is by using referees to penalize campers in some way. You don't really have to enforce this rule at all, I just suggested it for the sake of not having matches last too long. It's always irritating too, to see someone camping in HR. Something you could do without having to have someone be a referee, is have a death zone that appears after a while and slowly expands. This will end the round and kill campers.sinewav wrote:And that is one rule too many. How could you even enforce that in a tournament? Complaining about camping is just an acknowledgement that you suck.Nanu Nanu wrote:Sine, I think you forget that there are no rules in high rubber except camping.

Re: Tronathlon
I linked to MudPuddle to illustrate that I do more than play in Fort/Sumo servers. I've played every game mode. The reason why I play in Fort/Sumo servers is because the loose/HR ones bore me to tears. Mudpuddle is tolerable. Shrunkland is the best but no one ever plays because "OMG NO RUBBER WTF??!!"
If you want to say both communities enjoy their settings so it makes no difference, that would be acceptable. But that's not what is being discussed. The truth is, a low rubber player can enter and Loose/HR server and have a significant chance at winning the match. The opposite is not true. Loose/HR players are severely handicapped in low rubber servers. And that is the biggest problem with the proposed tournament. It will not achieve the goal of creating more crossover players. The low-rubber Fort/Sumo crowd will demolish all the loose/HR players. Don't believe me? Please, please, please have the tournament so everyone who doubts this can eat their words.
Sometimes it's hardly different. There is just as much stroking going on there as a Loose DF server.Soul wrote:Mudpuddle is not Loose Dogfight, lol.
I've never been slaughtered. When I win too much they just accuse me of not following their idiotic rules and kick me.Soul wrote:Put any low rubber "pro" in a LDF server full of DF "pros" and it would be a slaughter for the poor low rubber player.
Wrong. Humans have biases that computers currently do not. You can work with the inaccuracies in Arma to create settings/scoring that more accurately reflect the skills of the players in the server. Carefully crafted servers are always superior to the mob mentality in loose/hr servers.Soul wrote:Both human and computer officiating have their flaws, but neither is better than the other.

Re: Tronathlon
My first time playing fortress, ladle 50 something, I beat CTa in the first round. (Note i was still playing DF at this time) You'd be surprised that all these DF/HR "noobs" are better than you think they are.
As for the server officiating, I don't think either of us can judge which is better. It's personal preference as to which you like and you shouldn't go around mocking the other just because you disagree with it.
I would seriously like to play a quick DF match with you sine. I honestly don't see where you're coming from.

Re: Tronathlon
You beat all of CTa by yourself?! Holy shit that's amazing! ...Hey wait a second, I don't see team Soul anywhere in on the Ladle results page. Are you talking about when Redemption beat Crazy Tronners C in Ladle 63? Why didn't Redemption beat CTa this month or last month? Shouldn't you DF players be even better by now?Soul wrote:My first time playing fortress, ladle 50 something, I beat CTa in the first round.
Would you try to enforce "no stabbing, diggin, whatever" bullshit? Because that isn't going to happen with me. And if you want to know where I'm coming from, it's easy. My opinions come from the experience of playing in those servers.Soul wrote:I would seriously like to play a quick DF match with you sine. I honestly don't see where you're coming from.

Re: Tronathlon
Tronathlon seems to broad, time-consuming, and too difficult to make..
If you narrowed it down to just fort, sumo, and CTF, it would still to be broad to make.

Re: Tronathlon
I dont like DF and I suck at this, but DF players are pretty skilled. I dont like the rules thing but that doesnt mean having a referee is wrong.
My prediction is (sumo, fort, df, hr, ctf): 3-2 for "df" player. but could win any.
Personally, I can handle sumo fort and ctf, but would be raped on df and hr.
By the way, i dont think Tronathon will happen, but would be great. Nanu, I think if you want to try something just go ahead and do it, on fórums discussion you will always find lots of negative comments and few affirmatives

If you aren't capable of playing by the rules you aren't going to be welcomed in the server. Acting like an asshole will get you treated like an asshole.sinewav wrote:You beat all of CTa by yourself?! Judging from your defensive attitude and by bringing up irrelevant nonsense to make noise I'll assume your brain can't wrap around anything you don't agree with. Have fun living your life in ignorance.
And just because I love how much you love looking through tron stats, like I said it was somewhere in the 50s or maybe even 40s. Wasn't referring to the times Redemption beat CTa, I believe it was with Swift.

Re: Tronathlon
You mean actually core dumping people instead of masturbating them? Oh my! I'm such an asshole!Soul wrote:If you aren't capable of playing by the rules you aren't going to be welcomed in the server. Acting like an asshole will get you treated like an asshole.
LOL. I definitely understand loose and HR. It's actually symptomatic of how video games have turned into a different kind of entertainment. This all started before you were born, btw, so you will miss out on my unique perspective. There is nothing wrong with that. But as a whole, video games get easier and easier every year. Players don't want to get good as much as hang out with an engrossing game in the evening or play a game that is more social than anything else. Things evolve and that's fine, but I grew up in an arcade with my pockets weighed down with quarters I made from doing chores. Arma is split between these two worlds -- the new social/leisure games (loose/HR) and the classic gameplay I love so much.Soul wrote:Have fun living your life in ignorance.
That's cool. I just like to look stuff up because I don't have a habit of believing everything everyone says. That's how you become less ignorant -- by looking up facts. Swift's lineup for that Ladle was hardly a bunch of DF players and you know this. Don't tempt me to pull actual player stats from that .aarec, heh, you might not like what I find.Soul wrote:And just because I love how much you love looking through tron stats, like I said it was somewhere in the 50s or maybe even 40s. Re: Tronathon
That's fine I just don't like when people stereotype like I thought you were doing, which you may have been. Either way sorry for clouding this topic up with this.
Re: Tronathon
Oh dam soul, gurl you need water for that burn.
As much as you wanna argue with sine, hes right actually, if I recall correctly Soul, Liz and I were vs you and some other df pro, we were actually giving you a run for your money(according to tron we were winning score wise before referees came), but when they showed up, they began deducting points everytime I "backdoored" or kill me when I "closed"(keep in mind im a single binder doing ******* LDF)
Im just saying If you guys would of followed tron rules that were set by the server, Liz and I would of technically won, but nope referees slick & force came in deducting points and exploding us for our tron allowed game plays.
I say if you wanna settle this lets actually go to a DF server and play by tron rules, none of that unofficial bullshit that is implied by player eyes. If you complain of backdoooring/camping/closing well tough shit, its apart of the game.
Anyway if you do make this, make sure DF & HR doesn't have their unofficial bullshit rules.

Re: Tronathon
Anybody that doesnt follow DF rules would easily win against DF players... Df tournaments give you a warnings like Box, when you do it too ofen you get penalty.

Re: Tronathon
@Cody:You clearly don't know the rules of loose dogfight and shouldn't participate if you don't. I'm sure I could be a pretty good basketball player if I didn't dribble and took steroids. In no way what you said made any sense at all. We are all dumber for listening to that. Thanks for demonstrating your elitism though.
