You keep mentioning the Ladle is a knockout tournament and not a league but it is a league in a sense that you to the Bowl at the end of the season.

So if we suddenly added another player to each team your clan wouldn't be able to play? ;)

Just adapt and figure out new strategies.

Knowing there are some teams that cant get 6 players when Ladle starts, I dont know if would be good to add more players, anyway if there are only 10 teams then every team could have more subs...

Something closer to a professional sports league in terms of how players and teams are related to one another. Of course we cannot pay players to play for teams, so it's hard to organize a system that doesn't just depend on social relations. Theoretically, the culture of a league could be strong enough to replace money or social reasons as the incentive to play for a team. That was part of the goal of ISL, and non-social organization maybe halfway worked in the first season.
Wouldn't that require owners/managers who are separate and represent the team/franchise rather than themselves? I think ISL did a good job of that, it was fun managing a team for a season even if we underachieved - we still had fun. Might make a team for this as well. That's actually an interesting thought, what if sign ups/rankings were done by "organization" rather than players.

yeah it would. that's another big obstacle: having enough people interested and capable of being managers / player-managers.

As a general rule, shouldn't there be a wiki-page link somewhere to be found on this thread? :P

I don't think it has to be 6v6 either it would be nice to have a change. Whilst I agree some clans/teams exist to play ladle there would still be a load of them without it..
I can see 4 matches taking longer than an hour, past few ladles have overrun & that's only 3
In any case you should have the settings finalised before sign ups open imo

I initially voted for 6v6, but I do like the idea of 7v7. So -1 6v6 +1 7v7

Club teams play in both a league and in knockout tournaments without any change to the game format. Can you imagine if they played the league with 11 players and knockout tournaments with 13 players? It wouldn't happen.
That's not entirely true. 3v3 and 6v6 soccer formats are wildly popular amateur league formats in the US. They also tend to play on smaller fields.

We may struggle to get enough people, yes.

@Lucifer

Firstly, note that I said club teams. Club teams don't usually alter the number of players they have for different tournaments.

Secondly, of course we have small team amateur football (soccer) competitions here in the UK too (generally 5v5 or 6v6 on smaller pitches).

Finally, I'm not against having different competitions with different numbers of people per team, I just think that we should have one league and one cup tournament that follows a set standard (it could be either 6v6 or 8v8 or whatever). I'm surprised that no one else agrees with me on this, or at least that no one is speaking up to say they agree with me on this.

Anyway, let's get cracking on this AFL and enjoy it however it may be.

Perhaps they see the Ladle/Bowl series as a complete league? :) I don't know any leagues that use knock-out tournaments during their regular season, but if there's anything normal about armagetron it's that we never do anything normally. :)

You're right Lucifer, our Ladle/Bowl/Cup system is strange by most sporting standards. :) I am actually hoping that one day our community is large and mature enough to replace the Ladle/Bowl/Cup system with one league (hopefully this will be the AFL) and one knockout tournament (hopefully this will be the Ladle with the Bowl/Cup bit scrapped and which happens over the course of the league season). However, I won't hold my breath...I don't think my opinion will be popular.
