I didn't explain it at all. You rambled on like you knew something. I guess it wouldn't hurt to check and make sure FINISH_TYPE is set to one and not zero. Either way, we should pay attention to this bug and see if we can flush it out.

I have a serious suggestion about CTF servers. We should try to get them all on the most stable version we can find. This is a tournament and the "playing field" should be consistent. Remember, STY is a hack. It's not officially supported (yet). I can't see a reason to use newer versions if older, well tested versions meet our needs. In fact, I think regular STY might work fine instead of STY+CT. Let's look into this right away since we only have a few more days until next Brawl.

Ya sorry about that. I thought you were on about respawning and not about the round ending :P

So how can we check that? I left my finish_type to watever the ctf brawl settings kept it to.

UPDATE 1: I and my hoster are now conducting a test on my server to check.

UPDATE 2: So far I nor my hoster had any round ending quickly or doing something similar...

We just have to keep playing serious matches until we see the bug, then record which server version it is. After we narrow it down we can check the changes between versions and see what I might be. I'm of no help there, but maybe we can talk to some people who work on STY+CT for help.

Ya probably. ct|kyle could be one of those choices. He usually helps out if he's not busy.

I'll be looking into it based on the current servers that are up.

sine: Are you sure this is not just a random delay like this type? (explained in the second-to-last post (Z-Man) in that thread)
I bolded the word "random" because it implies that then this can happen at any server. Maybe the newer servers improved their accuracy of round winner detection (actually exactly what you wanted to change about match winner detection ;) )

Unless, of course, it happens every time at one server and never at another. Then actually my bet would be on performance and load related settings like DEDICATED_FPS (which also is standardized to 40 in the brawl cfg, so not that particular one either)

And as i tested, FINISH_TYPE kicks in AFTER the "Round Winner: foobar" message appears. At least it does so in single player mode which probably also is the only place it's used anyway. Don't blame FINISH_TYPE :p

vov: I have no idea where the problem is; I'm not familiar with the code at all. The only thing we know is that reliable delay after the last team death is no longer reliable. We need to figure out why.

vov: I don't know how DEDICATED_FPS could be factored into this equation but I'm pretty sure the end delay has something to do with FINISH_TYPE unless we're missing something here...

I ran a test script on my server (a recent one; March 2012), with the current Brawl settings:

Code: Select all

#!/usr/bin/php
<?php
$lasttime = microtime(true);
while(true){
	$line = rtrim(fgets(STDIN,1024));
	if(feof(STDIN)){break;}
	if(preg_match("/^ROUND_WINNER/",$line)){
		print("console_message 0xff0000Delay: ".(number_format((microtime(true)-$lasttime),3))." seconds\n");
	}
	if (preg_match("/^DEATH_/",$line)) {
		$lasttime = microtime(true);
	}
}
?>
It measures the delay between the last death and the ROUND_WINNER message.
I tested it with 2 clients from a machine inside my local network (10 times) and got values between 1.4 and 1.8 seconds; so even with the lowest load and pings possible there IS fluctuation.
Changing FINISH_TYPE (1 or 0) changed nothing about that, even changing DEDICATED_FPS at runtime didn't do anything. Maybe it's caused by lag spikes or something.

Only two servers have been updated for brawl 15, and they seem fine bug-wise

Just one more server will suffice for the First Rounds and Quarter Finals.

Do you mind if I host the 4th server if no one else hosts by then?
