Retaining your seed

The team name must remain the same. The exception is a slight variation or abbreviation of the name. However, it should be obvious to the person making the brackets this is a returning team with a seed. Please use good sense if you must use a variant or abbreviation.
The team must have either:
The same captain (or at least one captain out of the two, if there were two) and three additional players who were on the challenge board the previous ladle or
Five players who were on the challenge board in the previous ladle. Player names are restricted to the same guidelines as team names (above).
If your team does not meet these requirements you lose your seed and lower seeds move up to fill your position.

Try getting to the finals after 4.5 hours of getting beat on and answer your own question. I do agree in some cases a team definitely wants an opening round of play against a weaker team for a warm up. So far there is no proof seeding takes anything away from Ladle, and the benefits (no matter how slight) seem to be worth it to most people.

Regarding mYm's seed: Let's not get our undies in a bundle. There is still plenty of time for the Team Leader to make the necessary change.

If they don't use MeetYourMaker or something very similiar, it doesn't matter who's on the team, they won't get the seed.

MeetYourMaker has #1 seed.

The rule on the wiki includes team name and players. You said only the team name matters

As you can see, the rules for retaining your seed are not listed to pick 1 and you're good. You must first meet the team name requirement and then meet one of the team players requirements. The team players requirement is already met with 2 returning captains and a returning player; however, their team name does not match. They simply need to pick a name similiar to that of MeetYourMaker and they will retain the #1 seed.

For me, the biggest benefit of seeding is that it prevents the two hottest teams at the moment (very often two of the four seeds) from facing each other in the opening round.


By the way, mYm renaming everyone on their team is effectively making them forfeit their seed. If they're still like this when brackets are done on Thursday, their seed is forfeit.

Elmo is correct, the seed is forfeited with the alias change (a simple formality for sure, whether you agree or not). Again, there is plenty of time to clear this. Worry about it at 17:45 tomorrow.
