Well, looks like we've got UTF8 support in code, we just need our font expanded to include all the other characters. Volunteers?
Also, I googled around a bit, and apparently for arabic, at least, when we insert random non-arabic words, those get put in the direction of their languages. So it seems like for the bot names, we really want the translated names, but for player names, we just insert them like they are. Are other right-to-left languages the same for imported words?
So the issues to resolve, then, are basically font issues and coding for right-to-left.
Temporarily, at least among left-to-right alphabets, we could find some free fonts that have all the extra characters and just use those fonts for languages not supported by our font. That shouldn't be too tough, since Linux distributions come with them. We'd just need code to support that (which probably isn't too tough either, just some work).
And then we need right-to-left rendering for the console messages that are subject to translation. For non-translated messages (like chat, SAY, and the like) we just render left-to-right.

Re: Translation
Yes, but that leaves the question, is it understandable by the people who actually speak the language? From a language that reads right-to-left, inverting it may cause confusion for the people. So, is Arabic even possible if we ever get AA to support it's alphabet?
Edit: Sorry I must of misunderstood, do you mean to put English, and others, that read right-to-left as they are, but show Arabic in it's own way? Or invert English too to the Arabic client?

Re: Translation
Another thing, is Greek added to the same problem? Or is it a different story entirely?
What could happen?
Re: Translation
I think the problem with greek is alphabet.
What I meant about arabic is something like this:
.stniop 1 rof Z-man depmud eroc Lucifer
The backwards words are obviously supposed to be arabic, and the player names are just player names. That's how it's handled in web pages, anyway.

So, the same thing would go for server names and crap in the menu, too?
What could happen?

Re: Translation
Sorry if I haven't been done with this for a while. I've been a bit busy. If someone else knows both Norwegian and English, well, hopefully you'll help. It's been since, April I think? And I'm not even half done. (Hopefully this doesn't cause a meaningless "Bump")
What could happen?
