Reproduced it, got a serverside recording. As you guys suspected, it happens when a player times out (or quits) with a login request pending and another player takes his place, some data structures are not properly cleared . A fix has been committed to bzr, it's a server error only, so a serverside update should suffice. Side effects are possible. Daring server admins are encouraged to update from bzr so we see if the fix is safe for merging into 0.2.8.3.2.

That is genuinely scary. Your PC being possessed by a poltergeist is the easiest explanation. No code path apart from keyboard input should be able to change the password field.
