Yeah, but the real big problem is the conservatives who freak out every time they see a swear word. Most the time, it's the "kids" who are using all these cool new words they learned at school that they can't say around mom and dad and have to say **** and *** and **** every other word.

Cosmic Dolphin puts his finger on the problem, I think. People who are casually swearing in regular conversation because they *can*. Knock out most of those casual swears and those people have to find a way to communicate differently. It becomes too much of a chore for them to figure out how to get around the filters just so they can insert particular words in their regular conversation.
I personally think that sometimes just saying **** is the appropriate response to action on the grid.
And I don't think it matters if it comes across to other clients in letters or if it comes across in dashes, the meaning is still clear.
