I finally got around to registering. I think you are onto a good idea. Even if it starts with a small, but loyal group of participants, like the playfortress blog, it can grow! Gl. As soon as a take a good picture of myself, I will post mine.

I've said it before and will say it again: that is, in general, a bad idea. Content and search features should be available for everyone. Though in this particular case, it's just the video section you locked, right? That's OK, I guess. Edit: Nope, it's also one of the forums. Bad!AdyLucifer wrote:Ah,just in case, there are disabled features for guest users, so you better login on there to see it all.
Cheers.
Edit2: GAAA! My beloved 'back' button doesn't work consistently on that site. When I jump from the forum overview to a forum post via the 'spy' link and then click 'back', nothing happens at first (and Konqueror throws an error at me), and the next click takes me two steps back. Happens both in Firefox and Konqueror.

I'm into electrohouse BUT you should post anything YOU think that can transmit whatever you want to share with the listeners! =)
YEap that's what I thought too,when i saw those nice blogs on KOG website, i didnt even know they existed, but on this platform you can post without the need of anything,just registering! (Of course dont post any irrelevant things,or offensive.. it'll get deleted ,if not worse =D -- i'm talking in general,not focused to you compguygene lol).compguygene wrote:I finally got around to registering. Thanks for joining and i hope you enjoy it!
Not that bad,I locked music and video just for members, and the Ladle talk forum, as you need to register to post comments so this is more helpful than going there trying to post and then it displays the 'need to login' message.Now when the registered member enters there he/she can post wihout more time loses =).Z-Man wrote:I've said it before and will say it again: that is, in general, a bad idea. About the forum spy error, yes its true, it also happens on the official forum's website! Incredible how none discovered it yet --you are finding all bugs in their software LOL. Not much i can do, i could disable it (i think , not sure), or i could install phpbb3, but then we'd lose the ability to see new post on the homepage,i thought a forum would be more like for very very general discussions, becase we've got PM, blogs - user posts a sugestion or anything and people comments there , we've also got articles for more important things, no need to announce anything on forums-we've got events manager with calendar,videochat,etc.
I will inform them about the bug in forum spy, meanwhile try using the upper mini menu for navigating back ( Forums>Ladle>Talk).
Now i really need to develop the Ladle section.I've put the team 'creator' , some general info and a talk button which links back to the ladle talk section on the forums.Now as i never managed the ladle on here,what's needed, to wait for people to register,then 'someone' creates the who against who table?And we put it within a 'Challenge board' section under ladle menu? I dont know if it'll be very useful for the ladle,but i thought that the fact of not being editable by anyonewho just registers into the system makes it more trustful and 'official'.Groups (Ladle teams) can be created by anyone, and if you make them openjoin,anyone can join, if private' you invite your people,they got miniforums inside the group page --but XSLT and orca arent very friendly so it displays kinda weird text on buttons and menues,at least the posts are OK(tried solving this but cant get a solution,its all about the forum compiling language but theres no option for switching the minigroupforum to english--more bugs,YAY!), aswell you can create your own clangroup, and i will create a 'general' group type later.

Ah, as about the bugs i've seen they're using the new beta release on their site now- i must have checked the orca forums on some other site then and it worked as bad as ours, but the new one fixes that problem, so lets wait until they release the dolphin 7 package(pretty soon) then we'll upgrade it.

Re: -|ASoNe|- Armagetron Social Network --A51--
There are 3 tables in the database needed for that, one for groups other for profiles and another for groupmembers. If needed to export the groups and the players inside them you need to create a script to:
-From all groups select the ones with the category of ladle groups. (select where id = 37 or something similar)
-One by one, get the group ID, and look in the groupmembers table, there it says what player ID is in what group ID, like if i was ID 1, which i actually am lol, and ct ladle group is id 32 on groups, on that table it displays "player id|group id|status ~1| 1 | active"
so after knowing what player id's are in that group you need to select them from the profiles table to get the nicknames.Then same thing with the next group.
Then you'd have a list of groups&members of them to use wherever you want.
Im not sure if that's what you've meant with 'exportable'.
As for making a flexible system for tournaments -- the site has a feature to build pages from a flash program, but it build plain html.If the things were done manually on the wiki,it also can be done on asone in html,but if you need an innovative system i guess we could make a php script for that ,and make the menu link to it, even though i'm not sure if the website would keep its design as it stores all the pages you create in its database, not on a phisical html file.So resuming:
-Static, same as now , just that on a web with easier group management and communication(forum link,instant messenger and chat) : html on asone
-Dynamic,easier group management and also communication, but with ability to 'tweak' each tournament settings , etc -- php using asone's database, then we link it to the main menu -- but then we'd need to develop an apart website for the ladle, and i'm not that good php scripter unfortunately,but i will ask our ct guys and see if they are in the mood of doing it,even though i wanted to keep all the work for me

Yep, that. And storing the result in an xml file for other tools to import, formatted like this:AdyLucifer wrote:Im not sure if that's what you've meant with 'exportable'.
Code: Select all
<team name="CT Ladle">
<player user_id="ed" global_id="ed@ct" screen_name="ct|ed" role="leader"/>
<player user_id="wrtlprnft" global_id="wrtlprnft@forums" screen_name="ct|wrtl" role="player"/>
...
</team>
Is that flash editing tool activated somewhere? I have my reservations against the idea (due to the inherent restrictions of flash) and would like to give it a go before I comment. Don't forget that the Ladle is supposed to be self organizing. While it's been DDMJ handing the hard work of the board for past ladles, that was not because he was authorized or anything, just because he was the one willing to do it and because he's been doing it well enough not to accumulate a large lynch mob. So while it's not required that multiple people are able to work on the same document like in a WIKI, it needs to be possible to copy, paste and modify a challenge board produced by someone else and publish it as the improved version.
Re: -|ASoNe|- Armagetron Social Network --A51--
* after getting admin access *
Ah, the editor does not seem to be flash, it looks more like JavaScript. That's a bit better. Still, it doesn't work properly in Konqueror for me (/me is still on KDE 3.5), but fine in Firefox. It's certainly powerful enough to edit a challenge board.
As far as I can tell, admin access is all or nothing. There's moderators, too, do you know what they can do? I didn't see a way to tweak their rights. That raises the problem that only admins would be able to maintain the challenge board.

Re: -|ASoNe|- Armagetron Social Network --A51--
actually i've found out a way to create and insert real php files into all of it.Take a look at this test page -- the default html editor wont allow me to embed youtube's player,but while written manually it works, this brings hella more possibilities.
obsolete link
This also means we could enable a way of editing the ladle.php file from a webbrowser by specific users =). We're close to victory.

OK, i've finished scripting the challenge board part, now any of you can login using a special password on the ladle->login menu button and edit the ladle challenge board website.
Anyone who wants to do it please PM me for the password.
It is mainly a html editor, you just write there the html code,allowing tables ,embedded objects ,etc.
Now i go work on the exporting part.

Of course, it would be just 5 times easier work after i finish this to adapt it all and create a new tournament website.compguygene wrote:if you get this working...would you consider doing something similar for the "Fourtress for Four" type of tourney i would like to run 4 times a year?
Sol is working on creating a vps to host it(sol rocks!) so after i 'm finished with the ladle stuff we will move it there and after that we'll talk.
