against my better judgement

... i played a couple matches cause i was feeling bored. i had already tolded myself not to play anymore lately because of stress. ANYWAY:

DOUBLE-BINDING: what's up with that? i saw the server master Z-something (at a french server about two weeks old) doing some amazing 180's. it looked like he was turning on a dime against his own trail. i must have been completely wrong about double-binding keys. i'm competing against THAT??

BOUNCING OFF ARENA WALLS: seems like wherever i go lately it's been awfully hard to lay down a good solid grind. about every third time i try i bounch far off the arena wall, often teleporting to the other side of my own trail. for some reason i don't remember this in the past when i used to play regularly. could this be due to using the HUD?

I think it's because some servers, which run linux, don't renice the armagetron process. An ideal renice value is -20. I've played on servers with a renice of -20 and there seems to be little to no bounce. I've also played without renice and there seems to be more bounce.

It just seems to be a matter of server reaction time (how much priority the armagetron process receives), plus your typical lag, etc.

It's the whole kit-and-kabootle.

I think the whole game is going downhill after playing over the weekend, i.e. the new exploit.

Well, I have noticed quite a bit of bounce lately as well, yet I don't let it get to me. My reaction time to unsuspecting turns has improved and I don't get too pissed off when I die due to lag. Hmmm... I never say the "L" word too often either. Well about the double bindings, I use them too. But think of it more like triple bindings. Three keys to the left and three to the right, give you the perfect turn around to go back on your own wall. I know that most of the veterans here don't appreciate it much, but it was very easy for me to learn and master. I have seen great improvement in my wins and I don't think I could give it all up to go back to < for left and > for right. Thanks Locutus for the keyboard setup. 8)

no prob speedracer...I thoguht it was a revealtion when I found it (Until I had to reinstall and saw that double binding was setup by default - to which no one has had a decent answer for that Situation) but apparently, I just brought it more to the mainstream so people can really hate it...the first time I realized what double binding could do, there was no looking back...

some of the best players I have seen use double binding are: eggcozy, god, jaber, speedracer, chills...the list goes on

if people dont' like it, it really doesn't concern me..it's not my problem, i repsect their opinion, but I hope they keep an open mind when calling me weak or whatever for biinding like that...makes things a lot mroe inetersting and if it helps my game, Why Not?

I first discovered double-binding when I saw Sansibar experimenting with it one day. On Armagoshdarn, double-binding doesn't seem to have much effect (at least for me), so I don't use it there at all. On Armagoshdarnish (in 2.6), however, double-binding has a huge effect. The turn settings on 'Ish are configured so that it's possible to make very fast turns one after another, which is most evident of course when you turn using double-bound keys. I don't consider it a bug or a cheat. I see it as a feature of that particular server.

That said, I don't actually prefer playing with double-bound keys. That's why I'm on goshdarn much more than Ish. I'll play on Ish (and other servers) for the challenge and fun of playing in a different environment, but goshdarn is where I feel the most comfortable.

That's one great thing about Armagetron. If you don't like the settings and rules of any given server, you can always go to (or create) a different server. Double-binding isn't my favorite way of playing the game, but I won't complain if people want to do it. I always have the option of going to a server where it's not a factor.

My bad, actually. :(

I was so braindead writing at 4 in the morning (after playing a bunch of matches) that I forgot to say that I do indeed play with double-bound keys (but only when I'm on Ish, which isn't often).

Obviously the double binding doesn't make us gods, but it does enable us to go into certain paths without the concern that we will die trying to get out. The first time I saw it was when the walls were dissapearing yet they were definitely still there because you would die for no reason, so you thought. I was racking brain trying to figure out how the player was turning with lightening speed and turning in nearly impossible moves on the grid wall for example, which later led to rip grinds. I have great respect for you 55 for your dedication to not double binding. 8)

You dump my sorry ass all the time...hehe

I never said I was any better because of double binding, it just helps when i need it, I do not rely on it for any length of time but it has helped me in the crunches..

and as for classification, well I started old school, and played that way for a long time, ask anyone, I think I have earned the right to choose, I have great respect for old school players but my learning curve is much shorter than most of you...cause i aspire to be as good as most of you, yet have very little patience
