My Friends Deserted Me :(

Post by nicolas.b »

i played arma tonite for like the first time in a month*, had a blast, felt like a completely different player. i tried to use some of the zen principles of n54, subby, RK etc and they worked wonderfully-well as far as it went.... after a two-game learning process reeled off like five-straight under my upside down name. ;(

damn, i sure miss the game in many ways... what a wonderful game, only not to play every night!

only bad thing: marrow and speed were having connection problems or something and couldn't hang out, and also my first tron buddy ever loc, wasn't there. oh well... :( :) :(

another bad thing- it seems commie has parked it at 666 wins. what a shame, what a cool chinese guy... :(

* on goshdarn of course

Alas, if we weren't something like 8 hours away from each other. (Timezone wise.)

NIC I don't think anyone has deserted you. It is springtime in the northern hemisphere and I, myself like to spend a little more time outside. We all need a break now and then. Too much of a good thing spoils it.

My philosophy is basically to have fun. (win or lose) I guess that comes with having played so much. I use to get the major adrenaline rush playing and had to rest for a half an hour before I could fall to sleep. I still get a kick out of the game but not to the same degree. Maybe you could say I'm closer to that level of nirvana in Armagetron Zen.

Yes, I have lost some of my competitive nature. While playing I slack off sometimes and find myself trying harder to keep it interesting for myself as well as the other players. I still work on my tactics. It all depends on who is playing, so I can determine how they react. Being unpredictable and timing are two crucial elements I keep in mind while playing. Also trying new moves relieves the boredom and keeps people on their toes.
So what if I die a 1000 deaths trying, I have fun : )

I miss them too, but they'll be back

good points, guys, thank you!

and RK, i'd have to say i admire that approach very much. i am by training an *extremely* anal person who made the game into a huge, stressful load of work. i was tight as a nun's....... well, i was pretty tight, and had to drink booze and eat weed to help me relax playing the game.

but now? now i see many possibilities i didn't before. my tactics and grinds are going to be light-years behind others from lack of experience, but i feel that, like you say, as long as i am not afraid to die the grid is in the palm of my hand. just like life, really.

this may be the start of my armagetron comeback. to borrow tank's excellent phrase, "we'll see how it goes"...

Hey guys. I am sure you have noticed my lack of activity on and off the grid. Everything RK said just hit the nail on the head. Summer time stopped for me when I completed High School and turned into a three year vacation. How do you think I found this game. Not many stoners start browsing through linux that I know of. I have been playing an aweful lot and I see myself one day hitting the top 15 match winners for Armagoshdarn and having a respectable score for ish 2.6. Alas, will my dreams never come true? 8)

Totally agree with you RK, I think its a common

- start playing, loose a lot
- go to easier server, start winning
- go to arma for comp and star t winning a few games
- become ver good and win quite a bit
- wait a bit
- get better
- wait a bit
- get better
- learn new tricks form others
- get better
-win 666 - 700 or so matches in arma and
- just realx and don't care what happens
- ppl start thinking you can't play that good after all but you dont care because you are only there for a fun trying crazy stuff, and a bit of chat
- get in the mood now and then and go boom boom boom boom win match ... and ppl go how did that happen so fast ?
- go back to just cruisin around the grid being a hard kill but not a killer as such
- cruise some more
- find a forum like this and do more talking here than playing in arma
- get drunk and rediscover how much fun arma was/is and have a good night
- relax and do some house spring cleaning
-write a history of your feelings on the forum (hi!)
- go to the loo for a piss
- but before that you press the "submit" button
;)
