majination i once wrote a patch to stop the program drawing walls it was totally nuts!
technical details:
i disassembled the program and found memory location of the variable that holds walls_length in the program
this variable is updated from the server when you log into the game
then I added a little bit of code to force that variable so that walls_length = 1 ! lol
the result no walls on screen but you still crash into em ! very silly

ok i've looked in my shelves of magic and found a complete set of Visual Studio 6.0, 100% legal with independent key code. it is big, four cd's (3 of them Visual Studio and 1 msdn Library), i got it (multiple copies) from when i was teaching at a computer school.
i simply haven't ever tried using it on w98 but if you want it we just have to figure out a way to get the cd's to you. if you want to have a valid version of w2kpro as well just tell and i'll dig that up as well (only one additional cd).
the cd's are all english versions even though they were released in norway (special design for the school by cooperation with microsoft). in other words nothing important that isn't in english.
btw i only use gcc myself and the more i think of it the more i'm sure you should be able to use gcc on w98...

yes, should be ok, i'll use one of them "airbag"-packages as well as make backup cd's just in case
worked a short while in the norwegian postal system some years ago and know how "well treated" mail is lol (scary place & mentality, made the mistake of meeting my former gf/cw/bitch there)
*will not go postal*
