Locked Out of Compaq presario Laptop

Post by Speedracer »

Does anyone know how I can get this laptop to allow me to reinstall windows. It has an error message that pops up after it loads everything, then it locks the screen... My mouse arrow moves but can't interact with anything... even the keys are locked. If you have an idea let me know and I will try to answer any questions. Otherwise I will have to munually remove the hard drive and buy another... or something like that... I don't want to buy a new computer. Thx. 8)

You could post the error message, maybe it is helpful (probably not, however). Doesn't there exist a "safe mode" also for installation, possibly activated with F8? Something worth trying would be to install a previous version of Windows, and then to upgrade to the version you actually want.

What is the error, and where does it happen? I'd need a little more information to know how to help you.
Does it happen at the same place every time?
Is it DURING the reinstallation process?
Is it during the boot up phase?
Are you sure it's not a hardware issue?
Is your Windows CD damaged?

Just a few questions off the top of my head.
Tell us more.. I'm sure someone would be glad to help. :D
