Server won't let anyone connect/don't show up on list either

Post by Xeon »

Hey everyone, I am trying to set up a server on my PC. I am running Windows XP, I set up the server, I did all the configs for it, and I openend the port on my firewall for it and it won't let anyone connect and it doesn't show up on the list. I set the TALK_TO_MASTER 1 and it shows up when I personally try to connect to it andlets me but won't let anyone else. help?

What version is the server? Also, name and IP address would be helpful to search the master server logs.

Oh yeah, WinXP has a firewall, did you check to make sure it's letting you through? It should if it's letting you connect with LAN, but it's worth asking.

That one doesn't show up on my master's list. Not at all. Not even a client request. Nothing from the 10.85 subnet, in fact. Are you sure this is your correct public IP? We can't see your IP, you already seem to have found out that bit yourself :)

Sometimes, firewalls also block outgoing packets; you should make double sure yours doesnt. Mind you that beside the Windows XP firewall, you may also have another firewall installed, and your router may add another one on top of that.

well, I don't have the server up and running at the moment. There is only one other IP that it could be and that is 66.110.197.20. I am not using a router, I got the cable modem connected directly to my computer. I also do not have any other firewalls besides the windows one.

That's the IP you are posting from.

And it appears just fine on the master logs. Everything went allright. You're probably just affected by the problem that you yourself can't see your own server. We consider that a bug (or missing specification, whatever you may call it) in most IP stack implementations, your client does not recognize ping responses from your server because it sends the ping to your public IP, but gets the response from your private IP.

No, I can see the server but no one else can. I can connect to the server and everything else but again no one else can. I tried to get someone to custom connect to both IP's I gave you guys and they couldn't connect.

Well, the master server did see you at one time, of course it just pings and doesn't try to connect. Is this problem still there? If yes, I'd suggest you visit the IRC channel (#armagetron on freenode) to let someone check for your server while it's online.

Post by DDMJ »

I need some help getting my server onto the master server list. I am running Mac OS X Version 10.4.6. TALK_TO_MASTER 1 does not work. I have turned off all the firewall on this computer yet it still doesn't show up on the master list. I need some help. Thanks.

I think we determined that means you need to open a port somehow.

When we talked about this ingame the other night, didn't you tell me the computer was hooked up directly to the cable router?
