@Phytotron
we are talking about a low rubber server, a fortress here, not about an high rubber server.
I don't care what the game mode is, all the reasons these kids are whining and bitching about why cycle width is bad are exactly the reasons why it's a good thing.
I'm not taking orders from you. I respect your opinions, but I'm not taking orders.
i didnt write that i wrote Wed Jun 07, 2006 9:48 pm Post subject: Reply with quoteEdit/Delete this post

Bring them. I stand by what I say. Will you stand by what you say? That's what I'm asking for. You can take it as an insult, doesn't matter a lot to me. If you didn't want to know what I thought, you would have asked me not to share it, right? In the meantime, stand by what you say. Show me what you can do. I'll be along in a bit, got dinner and stuff, school, you know, the same stuff, but you'll get your chance to show me.
np i just got a bit worried. lol its your sever and i wud never write that, its your server and i respect u for giving us the chance to see how its run. Cud u pls edit that post
well ive just come from bugfarm and came here to vote no...but i decided the least i could do was read the comments about the settings change first and it got me thinking....all the points that have been raised about..dbl grinding..the quick win..accidental tks..etc............maybe we havent given the new settings enough time..or rather we need more time to adapt to them....i think we have all got too used to dbl grinding and outspeeding the other guy....im,e gonna try to adapt my gameplay around the new settings....its true it seems harder now ...but will we be saying that in a few months..........time will tell.......lets give it a go chaps.........tally hoooooooooooo...and toodle pip
It's not harder, it's easier...No need to worry about middle attack...no need to worry about shifting your style around because another guy is speeding past you. You guys are thinking too much about the offensive side...look at the defensive side. The change favors defense and defense style of players and also favors the less skilled.
If nothing else this experimental change, and topic, got alot of attention and got people to register at the forums. Anyway I think this change should stay up for at least a week so people can get a real feel for it, not just first impressions like what most of these posts are I think.
This is experimental change is great if you love playing defense. Since only one person on each team usually plays defense, the majority of the team is attacking. This change only benefits one person on each team so about 2 out of 16 players in a game which isn't a good percent. The 2.5 experiment was much easier to adapt to because it kept u alive instead of actually killed you. Also, for people that have become really good manuevers and expert grinders, all the skill that they've obtained is going to waste. Now, the center spot is probably the worst as he can't attack thru the middle. He now has to wiggle around and wait for the tails to clear. Even though I do like playing defense sometimes, I would rather keep my team happy so I'm going to vote no. Also, has the experimental change caused some sort of team color bug. I've noticed that every 8 rounds or so, everyone switches team colors. What's the deal? Both of these things need to be considered. Thanks.
OK, I just gave it a quick try, and wow. First thing I said to myself was, "this is it? This is what all the shrill fuss is about?" It's sooo nothing, you guys. Minimal, at best. As far as I could tell, the behaviour was effectively no different than a slightly higher mindistance value, say about 0.05—still miniscule. I was easily able to grind close and even to go between seams (something I personally would rather be impossible even without this setting, mind you). Paperclips suck; use staples instead.
Phytotron: Did you try to Double Grind? Did you try a middle attack? Do you even understand what those terms are? The change affects these tactics the most, it makes DGing very hard to do and middle attack even harder. The lack of these is what most people are complaining about. As for:
Unfortunately, it's a fact of life now that all but a couple active servers have absurdly high and ridiculously pliable rubber settings. Rubber hasn't been about compensating for network latency in, well, at least since I've been playing. It's now a "feature." Anything below 10 is considered "low" and "sux!".....At any rate, I haven't tried it yet, and while I don't like fortress, I may pop in just to see how the cycle width behaves. I'm sure I'll get kicked very quickly for not falling in line and doing exactly what the "elites" there want me to.
I take it the server you usually play on is Shrunkland, which has a difference of 1 rubber, and I also take it that you hate fortress, so I am wondering why is it that you have to comment on it, in such a condesending way too, when it obviously doesn't matter to you what happens to fortress since you don't play there?
lol as van just was talking about shrunklands, i thought lets have a look what that server is. jez those guys attacked me imediately (no not with the cycles) but verbally. after i responded a bit i got banned? must be some big assholes there...
