Probably just my isp but usually have a ~60 ping to cvs/bugfarm and ct servers but they are now phasing in oand out as unreachable and I get patchy timeouts when I can connect.
Nothing has changed at my end ( I did install debian but still playing via windows.

yeah, fluctuating pings can be caused by a vareity of things.
Most common one is downloading - if you have any P2P /file sharing apps open then pings bound to increase, e.g. my ping cnaged from 80 to 220 when i was downloading a linux torrent.
Second, is internet speed. Obviously, DSL/WLAN/Ethernet will have much lower pings than ISDN or 56k. But depending on the stability of your ISP, isnt always consistent. Anyone who was in CT Wild earlier, would have nitced that my pig was 65 then went up to 1200 - no idea why - wasnt downloading, no other apps open, i guess my isp is just crap.
Anyway hope this has been helpful, anything else about pings you want to know then you know where i am =)
