Okay.. This is a mystery...
why Armagetron is going 2fps on a local game which is running on a 1GB of ram with a Pentium 4 processer a 200GB drive and an Nvidia extreme graphics card makes me scream!
What in god's name is goin on?

Several things you can try:
Go to Display Settings->Performance Tweaks and set Swap Mode to Finish.
Send a recording. There is a start menu entry that lets you create one, it will be placed on your desktop; you just have to zip it up and attach it here. I'll then have a look at it and see whether anything eats up your CPU time.
Tell us what version this happened first. It'll be best if you really try to find the exact first version and can say with confidence "In 0.2.8_beta3, everything was fine, but the trouble starts in 0.2.8_beta4". That gives us at least a little hint where we need to start looking.
