suck.
have pity on us dialup users!!!!!!
if they're just 2 or 3 frames, you know, really low kilobyte , they're ok, but sometimes, a forum thread takes like ... well over 30 seconds to load,.. sometimes 2 minutes or more!!!!!!!!! ;p
makes it hard to you know.. like.. do stuff fast..
anyways, thats my 2 cents.

I agree. I have broadband, but it still takes forever (relatively speaking), and often the page moves down while I'm trying to read it, because images above are still loading.
Note about my old avatar: it has always stayed well below 8000 bytes, only getting close to that when the light came from the eye direction. A possible improvement would be to flush the header as soon as possible, so the space can be preserved early. Less than one second earlier, that is. But it doesn't matter anymore.

The problem with the animated signatures is that there's no way to specify height and width for the image. You're supposed to give height and width for each image precisely so dialup and other slow-page-loading users can still read the page while waiting for the images to load. But with these dynamic images, we can't really do that, we need to know how big they are when the html for the page is rendered, but we don't.
I, too, get irritated by it.
