I recently decided to finally upgrade to 2.8 because the one I was running was seriously out-dated.
Whenever I try to open it (Im on Windows XP) it gives me one of those microsoft "We have encountered an error and must close this program." or whatever, then gives me the option to report it or not. I clicked on the "Get more details" button and got a bunch of computer lingo that nearly gave me a seizure.
It read:
AppName: armagetronad.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: msvcrt.dll
ModVer: 7.0.2600.2180 Offset: 0001a61d
Yep, Im a noob.

Then you haven't seen a memory dump yet. Try that (it is reachable via the crash dialog) and people who have more experience with obscure Windows problems* will probably be closer to the answer before you've recovered.Load wrote:I clicked on the "Get more details" button and got a bunch of computer lingo that nearly gave me a seizure.
*You'll get a better answer from them.

Please go here and fetch one of the older builds; we switched the incuded version of SDL, and that has already been identified as the source of another new Windows-specific problem. So knowing whether the last development release works would be useful.
Knowing which graphics card and which of the two beta versions you are using may be of interest, too.
I'm afraind I'm not a Windows expert; I don't know how to interpret those memory dumps XP gives you. I may have better luck with the output of a real debugger; there is a small, free one called "Debuggy" out there. Someone told me how to get the seizure-inducing data that's sent to microsoft when you report a problem (AFAIR, copy-paste does not work), but I forgot how. And it only contains the versions of loaded libraries and in which module the crash was anyway.

Heh, sure. Most of my last post was just rambling to myself
Get this version:
http://beta.armagetronad.net/fetch.php/ ... x86_32.exe
Install it and see whether it runs.
The version one earlier may also be worth a try:
