About Transparent walls
I tried using a PNG-24 with completely transparent sections, but it doesn't work, is it only possible with sky? Are transparent and semi transparency supported?

That is correct. The still relevant intention there is that in incam only servers, having partially see-through walls would be cheating.
The older intention was that there was to be occlusion culling of walls for incam only gameplay for optimization purposes, and that only works with nontransparent walls. In the meantime, this turned out to be futile, the CPU cost of the processing and more variable set of walls to actually render eat up any speed benefit from drawing less geometry. GPUs have been eating the couple of hundred polygons for breakfast for a good while now.
