Saturday Sumobar League

Post by Titanoboa »

This is a long time coming, and it's finally happening. On Saturday we'll start off with some sumobar league action.

The idea is that we've got a lot of active players right now, with a lot of free time due to circumstances. The goal here is regular, competitive, ranked sumo at a level that's somewhere between your big tourneys and your public servers.

We'll start off with 2 separate leagues, one EU and one US. Both weekly matches happen on Saturdays, with a few hours between them. If a player so chooses, they are more than welcome to participate in both leagues every week.

There's no requirement for a player to show up every Saturday, or even more than once if they don't want to.

There's no pre-registration. You show up on the day and register a little while before the first match starts.

EU league starts 13:00 GMT (2 pm British and 3 pm Central European).
Join the armagetron discord* and post in #competitions between 12:30 and 12:55. At :55, assuming there's more than 8 players, we'll randomize all interested players into matches of 4-8 (depending on our total number) and we'll use the custom size maps accordingly for each match. A match is 18 rounds with standard SBT rules. The position you finish in will affect your elo rating in the EU rankings. Your opponents' ratings will also affect how many rating points you gain or lose from a match.

As soon as match 1 is finished, match 2 will start being set up as soon as possible, repeat for match 3 etc. If memory serves, a match takes 20-25 minutes. So if you're randomized or seeded into match 2 or 3, you'll simply have to wait.

*Link expires in 24 hours, sorry. If anyone has a permanent invite link, please post below.

US league starts 20:00 GMT (4 pm Eastern, 3 pm Central, 2 pm Mountain, 1 pm Pacific).
Same procedure as above: post in #competitions in the tron discord between 19:30-19:55 and at :55 we'll randomize you into matches of 4-8 (depending on the total number. For example if we get 13 players, we'll have one zone with 7 and one with 6). A match is 18 rounds with standard SBT rules. The position you finish in will affect your elo rating in the US rankings. Your opponents' ratings will also affect how many rating points you gain or lose from a match.

We'll be using Agility's servers for this league. (Thanks, Agility!)
In the future we may consider utilizing more servers for efficiency, but for now let's start as simple as we can and see where that takes us.

We don't actually have an elo calculator yet, but we'll record all the scores for now and turn them into elo awesomeness later. It takes a few matches for the ratings to become accurate anyway, so we definitely have time to work something out.
