New game mode: resurrection

What do you want to see in Armagetron soon? Any new feature ideas? Let's ponder these ground breaking ideas...

New game mode: resurrection

An idea I had for a possible new option...
When someone dies, everyone they dumped is resurrected and respawns (a sub-option):
- where they died
- an open place
- randomly
Another sub-option is that when you are resurrected, anyone you dumped is re-dumped (if they were resurrected)
In this game mode, you would need to dump all other players to win-- and you wouldn't need to wait until the end of the round to play again :)

Sounds like a great option.. something a bit different, which is usually
a good thing... keeps people interested sometimes :D

Interesting... I remember playing a game sorta like that in PE... I forget what it was called tho...

You wouldn't call it something like "4 lives" or anything, would you? ;)

Speaking of whiches, Tank, did you ever manage to dig up the four lives code you had? I wasn't around for it, but it sounds like it would've been a lot of fun. Instead of giving everyone 10 rounds to win a match you could give them 10 lives, last man standing. Or 4 lives.

Luke, would they win the match after this? Or would it be you win like this 5 times you win a match, one you win a round.

To clear this up: Lukes idea is first to kill everyone and you win a round, and lucis is you start with 4 lives and last person to have any lives left is winner of round (what is to happen if you draw? an extra life to the person you draw with)? Correct?

You win a round, I guess... could always set the # of rounds per match to 1. :)

Lol luke. Seeing as how 1.0.0 is the next BIG release, shouldn't we save it for that, insteada postponing armagetronad.nets estimated 3 months to go til release of 8.0.. So many put the project on hold for a lil? One of us will dig it up when were ready i suppose..

EDIT: We couldn't have points for kilkling people now tho, only points for winning the rounds...whichll be fun..

Yeah, tank had a server called 4 lives. It was a little before my time, but I heard a lot about it. If he still has that code and it can reasonably be adapted to the new version, it might be a good place to start. Your idea, Luke, seems to include his 4 lives code but with added value. :)

As to where to start, cvs head looks like the right place. :) I haven't looked too hard at the main game loop, but you might consider factoring out death, victory conditions, and so forth, if reasonable (and necessary, like I say, I haven't looked at the main game loop too hard) because then we could build on what you do in other areas too, like building in more victory conditions. :)

That would defeat the whole purpose of it, you wouldnt even need to be the one who kills everyone first to get the points then... It's not like without getting points for killing people it'll turn into microbuscity jr...itll still have to have lots of killing.

I think you missed the part where he suggested you'd have to kill everyone to win the round. :)

Neat idea! I'd implement it without #ifdefs in the CVS trunk, as long as it needs to be enabled by a config option, that's fine. And it would be great if the many-lives code of Tank could be integrated, too: both have a common problem to solve. How do I respawn right without giving either the swawnee an unjust initial advantage or disadvantage? A common solution would be great.

That would be outside, and possibly nowhere if someone built a wall on the edges of the bounds rectangle.
