An intermediate solution might be to start a list of dedicated Ladle Enthusiasts who will have persistent authority during Ladles. This would be similar to CTF Brawl's "Super Leaders" but in this case we would just extend the list of Global Moderators. Speaking of which, that list needs to be cleaned up.

This Global-Mod/Super-Leader role would be for someone who wants to field open teams and ensure that ad-hoc teams can play if formed after sign-ups close (it will happen). Switching to a Super Leader system also removes the need for server authorities to be current. Authorities only need updating when the Global Mod list changes. The community is small enough now that this should be easy to keep an eye on.

We really only need about half-a-dozen GM/SL's to make the event run smooth. This seems like an easy and flexible solution. Maybe we can try this for a couple months? I believe we will eventually reach a threshold where Ladle can be grafted onto the old #pickup system where players just meet in an IRC channel and organize the event there.

We are now in the process of "graceful degradation." Long Live Ladle!
Great Idea Sine! I liked it so much, I decided to implement it.
Here is what I did.

I went through the team leaders from ladles 101, 102, 103, and 104. With the exception of Gonzap, Owned, and Kite, who don't really seem to be around, I gave every team leader USER_LEVEL 6 which combined with the change I made to the ladle84.cfg file from ACCESS_LEVEL OP 2 to ACCESS_LEVEL_OP 6 will allow our new "Super Team Leaders" to be able to /op team leaders. This will also allow Super Team Leaders the abilty to do that anytime and setup matches in Ladle servers, just like we did with the Brawl.
To see the list of Super Team Leaders just read the challenge board.
So, somebody else can do the brackets. Barring any changes, servers can be setup. Mine are up now. The wiki is updated as needed.

And as to "graceful degradation" I think we may actually be hanging on by a thread... but remember this: at least 6 long gone players I have talked to in game that stopped in to play in the last year, like GoodyGumDrops, for example, were pleasantly surprised to hear that we are still holding Ladles!
This is NOT an April fool's joke, I just did it on 4/1. I am surprised that nobody has any comment.

I like the idea and it is great that you did it this fast.
Like with everything else depending Ladle we'll have to see how it works out. Probably the Super Team Leaders need to be modified a little but time will show who is sensible for this and has enough knowledge

Yeah the list seems fine for now, as long as we're sensible and don't give out 'super team leader' to a random that shows up saying "Hi guys I like FAST TRACK :)" it'll be fine.

I don't think that Virtualbox or Wine work on OpenBSD as of yet, they certainly aren't in the repository.
Just recently the OpenBSD devs have added a native hypervisor/whatever to the operating system but I'm not going to faff around getting that to work when I'm sure the issue of running Arma on OpenBSD is not too complicated to fix.

CT's team is open. If you want to join us, please let me know in PM or just show up in the server and PM me there.

That being said, thanks for the effort, Andrei.

I probably won't make it home early enough to record the first round. The others should be fine.

Light: if you see this post, apparently the Ladle Countdown is off by 45 minutes. We start earlier now. This confused some people and we didn't get going until 30 later.

Gene: Double check the Global Mod list. I'm a GM, but my authority was overwritten by Super Leader status. Be more careful, please. :)

EDIT: Who won? WTF? Let's update the bracket.

It should have been an hour off? On the other hand, that was caused by me messing up a gt sign that should have been lt. Sorry about that. It should be fixed, so let me know if it happens to still be wrong. I went off of what times are written on the wiki page.

Thanks for letting me know, Sine. The Authority file, Wiki list, and Authority Name on the Wiki have been updated.
Server owners will need to update the Authority File on their servers.

Code: Select all

RINCLUDE compguygene/ladle/LadleAuthorityV1.cfg(http://resource.armagetronad.net/resource/compguygene/ladle/LadleAuthorityV1_1.cfg)

That is not the fourth sign of the apocalypse, btw. The recordings only fit into one post because I missed one of the opening matches completely.
