Microbus City Points Tactics

Post by espiesior »

It is possible to win many many points on Microbus City without even winning too many games. After all, the person who would win a match would've had the most points.

Everyone who has played on MBC knows how to trap someone, do multiple slides, and to play Armagetron in general. However, most have no idea how to win the greatest amount of points so that the match can be theirs. The following tactics are essential to anyone getting on MBC. Some of these tactics are also core to winning in Swampland (non-Breakfast), Tigers Net, and other servers.

1. Stay AWAY for from the mazes and battle scenes. As the other players knock their brains out... don't be stuck in the middle of it. This is because most of the others are probably hitting speeds of 50s and above. Wall-sliding is an all right thing to do while staying away from the enemies.

2. (this applies only to MBC) When you and an enemy are on the wall, you both are trying to sliding back and forth so that you can overtake the other to defeat him. The best way to defeat these opponents and keeping yourself alive is to speed up quickly to a corner and turn. It is very hard to turn corners on the edge. This way, the enemy will be trapped and you will not have to waste energy but sliding back and forth.

3. Camping is not bad. People might accuse you of camping on MBC, but it isn't bad (unless you are on some stupid and picky server like Tigers). If you are boxed... just camp (don't try to get out right away). You have to camp all the time to win.

4. Stay alive. Humans make many many mistakes. If you stay alive long enough... you opponents will make a mistake and crash. Then you will be the victor. The best way to stay alive is to camp.

For the record, :) , Swampland in 2.7.1 is Breakfast too. Breakfast servers are marked by the fact that their settings are directly derived from eggcozy's Breakfast of Champions (formerly also Breakfast Burrito), and Swampland in 2.7.1 is just the 2.7.1 version of Classic Swampland. I think Swampy just ran out of room in the servername.

Anyway, yeah, looks good, I always thought the reason I didn't like MBC was because you had to camp to win. ;)

First of all, I think most players will agree that mbc is stupid not tigers network...was gonna hold back on saying this but i dont like people who are bad at games calling other people bad kinda things... Second off, wheres the skill in sitting there dbing back and forth waiting for people to kill themself?
Damn, it sure has been a while!

This probably goes without saying (since I criticise it ... a bit too much, admittedly), but my opinion is that microbuscity (and its various clones, including Speeder's) is one of, if not the, worst servers. Yes, my opinion, but it is what it is. I don't find a single setting redeeming, and the one or two styles of play found there are terrible: boring and redundant, cheap...unfun. Unfortunately, mbc-style play is overflowing into other servers as well. So, I wouldn't necessarily brag about the best ways to win there. It ain't hard.

I may not always be one of the finest players in Hell or Swampland (the two I most frequently play), but at least it tends to be more fun and interesting in those servers. Microbuscity (et al) just isn't. IMO :|

Whoah guys, settle down a minute. So we're not MBC players. :) WE still shouldn't rip the guy a new one for talking about MBC, it is a fairly popular server (and has generated its own clone).

Better to see if they can handle us at teams. :)

Har har. Fonkay's my teammate.

Well, I didn't really mean to rip the guy a new one, as you put it. I simply tend to be frank with my commentary. Obviously, everyone plays where and how they prefer.

(I still stand by what I said, though. )

Heh, I was proud of myself for showing what I thought was considerable restraint. I don't show such restraint when I play MBC, which isn't often.

No doubt. :) I'd like to point out that camping is a perfectly valid tactic on Breakfast in Hell these days, though. Say you have 7 points, there's two of you left, and the other guy has 6, and you just saw the 1 minute warning, what do you do? Well, I normally camp in this situation, but the death zone will usually appear and decide whether or not we go into overtime. And I think that's a perfectly valid tactic.

You see it in sports a lot, actually. One football team is up by less than a touchdown and they have possession of the ball. So you'll watch them fool around running the play counter down as far as they can, and then start the play. Same in basketball, I've seen games where the winning team was ahead by two points, 30 seconds on the clock, so they just held the ball until the bell rang.

So yeah, I'm not fundamentally opposed to camping, when you get right down to it. I'm opposed to people camping when they can't compete, and I'm opposed to camping as a way of life on a server (like MBC). But it can be a very competitive tactic as well.

I play at Swampland Breakfast (Classic is boring)... Tigers Network is all right, but the players in it are total noobs. I own at those servers too, but I play a lot more in MBC, so I figured that I should target this post to MBC players. Of all servers I like the breakfast servers and MBC clones the most.

Depends on the size of the box.

Best way to improve your game, in my opinion, is pick someone who's truly insane and follow them for awhile. I've followed Kyle, Your_mom, eggcozy, locutus, even anumeric.

(locutus recently said I was better than him, but I suspect sarcasm :) )
