Ok things to say about that, I said "ddos time" because usually a server gets ddosed everytime turtle mode gets activated, which it did get activated right before so ya... Also it doesn't really matter, server didn't get ddosed when I said that anyways.

Also rookie, don't call me pathetic for trolling, at least I don't troll under shitty aliases such as Amaso and [Anonymous], huehue.

Yep. The real world is complicated. You can be a victim in one case and still be a total asshat.

Well, you had your chance to make up a better reason. One week ban.
nara wrote:Actually, we can blame you for threatening to ddos. And if you are going to make that threat, we have every right to suspect you.
That. Plus, even if there is no action following the threat, the threat itself is despicable enough, and trolling is plenty of reason for a server ban.

So. What players should do: If a ddos threat or a suspected attack happens, inform your server administrator.

Server moderators (those with access to player IPs): Do share the IPs players make threats from here. While we have no real global ban system, other servers may want to ban them, too. Yes, the IPs may be masked. Worst case, we'd be banning proxies. But playing over an IP hiding service ALWAYS costs you game fidelity and I suspect they at least sometimes still use their normal, direct connection.

Server owners: If you are reasonably sure a DDoS happened, inform your hoster and the appropriate authorities. That shit is illegal in most legislations. Give them the chat logs showing which IPs threats came from and whatever you can gather on the attack itself. Chances are not very good that they can track an individual attack to a real person, but maybe several reports do the trick. Only the other week, a lot of people who used Lizard Squad's DDoS service got uncomfortable visits by the police. The lucky ones just got explained the seriousness of the situation.

Those doing DDoSes: think about whether you want a SWAT officer explain what you did to your uncle who takes care of you ever since your alcoholic mother abandoned you. Just guessing, of course.

Always keep in mind that sometimes, servers just have connection trouble or other difficulties for no good reason; not every disconnect is an attack. Whatever you post here, please make sure your evidence is reasonably solid.

What we forum moderators can do here: We can correlate IPs and forum accounts and game activity. That information can be valuable: TheRealTweezy's home IP seems to be 108.72.37.6 currently based on that information (small caveat: It can confirm he was active from there, but of course it may be a friend's home). No, I'm not saying which data I queried and what else may be available. They're all blissfully unaware of what sources we have and I'd either like them to stay that way or get really, really paranoid :) We'll happily share that information with any proper authorities, of course.

And yeah, if need be, we can block individual IPs from using the master servers. That does not block them from using the game or entering servers, but it makes their life a little less comfortable. And essentially, they're doing this because they think it is hilarious fun, so reducing the fun may be all it takes to make them stop.

In his defence, the Rookie account got permabanned after his first three spam posts, so he kind of has to use aliases :)

*sigh* I'll talk a week ban because the armagetron forums is really important to me... In other words too, thank you for giving out my neighborhood's public wifi, that will make others feel comfort. At Ease.

It will. I love blocking IP ranges from my servers. There are only a few people I care to play with anyway, so it doesn't bother me to block entire networks.

If you were getting ddos'd, it evidently wasnt very effective, since you were still playing tron and trying to ban them.

Just saying. I didnt bother to read the entire thread, seemed like a bunch of whining and name calling.

So, just want to bring this up again: There are two different people who use differing variations of the name "tweezy," right? The one with the uber leeet 33, and then the long-time player who stylizes it TweezY?

http://forums3.armagetronad.net/memberl ... ile&u=5470 This is the person in question, I'm unsure whether they used to be known as TweezY or not, but I've only ever known one person to go by 'Tweezy'
