Disable chatbots?

Post by /dev/null »

Ive been far too lazy to look, but is there a hard counter to them using the chatbot to be boring? Or is it just another one of those "deal with it" things.

Its pretty simply to ramp the chatbot up to robot. Would disabling chatbot even work? Or is xdude mk2 here to stay?

You can use the CHATBOT_ family of settings to make the chatbot useless.

I think the issue is with modified bots which then settings don't effect.

There are the TIMEBOT_* settings that try to detect inhumanly good timings on turns. Other than those, sorry, if the client is modified, fundamentally nothing can stop it from using any way to turn its cycles it pleases.

The timebot detection is pretty unreliable if you're trying to detect if they're bots or not though... I get them in my own servers occasionally. (for myself)

Then tune them differently? Might still not work, bot detection is really hard, especially if you're dealing with very sparse input.

I brought it up because on the subs at least, its either broken or not enforced. I saw a fellow make a deep, perfect spiral and it didnt give any kinds of *****.

Its good to know its there though, shame its not enabled or misconfigured on those servers. Perhaps you should default it to something fairly sane? It could be already, I havnt actually looked.
