You can connect to it at:

breakfast.servegame.com
port 4540

It should show named something like "Breakfast in Hell (test server for 0.2.8.0)" or something like that.

(it's supposed to show in the master server)
Very interesting :D.

Code: Select all

talk_to_master
[0] TALK_TO_MASTER is currently set to 1.
edit: it's also not showing up in LAN game, but my other two servers are. The difference is that those two servers are on a different machine, the test server and the client I play with are both on the same machine.

Two things. I took some screen shots, and I know it did it because it lagged, only I can't find them. They're not in the screenshot directory. 2nd, one of these screenshots was of me just having passed through Lucifer's wall on his test server...

(Edit, I'm up to 19 screen shots in my screenshot dir.)
(Edit 2, seems it won't add more...)

Hmmm, console output while the server is starting:

Code: Select all

[0] Bound socket to 0.0.0.0:32792.
[0] Bound socket to 192.168.1.102:4540.
[0] Connecting to master server...
[0] Login information sent. Waiting for reply...
[0] Login Succeeded. User Nr. 1
[0] Syncing with server...
[0] Relabeling NetObjects...
[0] Syncing again...
[0] Done!
[0] Sending my server info...
[0] Logging out...
[0] Done!
[0] Killing user 0, ping 10.
[0] Closing socket bound to 192.168.1.102:4540
[0] Bound socket to 192.168.1.102:4540.
[0] Ping charity changed from 100 to 100100.
[0] Nobody there. Taking a nap...
Also, after restarting *that* server, now I can't see any of my own servers on the master server list. Heh. I'm going to delete frommaster.srv and try again.

edit: nope, still all missing

Nemo: I probalby mispelled the server name, it's working now.
What chat type do you mean? the normal, /msg or /me?

Lucifer: the master server log says

Code: Select all

Received login from 63.246.169.119:4540.
New user: 1
Received new server: breakfast.servegame.com:4540
received logout from 1.
Killing user 1, ping 0.866553.
Acknowledged server: 207.44.206.52:4534
Acknowledged server: 67.19.3.82:4534
Received login from 67.169.163.68:59845.
And I guess that's the problem: I'm still running the old master server, and that probably does not like the DNS name being sent. So it could help if you disable SERVER_DNS again. This may also have confused the master to unlist your other servers, they are indeed gone from the list for good although there's no indication of that in the log.

What is you setting of SERVER_IP now? Without ANY in it, a server is invisible to the LAN browser.

Tank: I think screenshots now go into the "My Pictures" folder in Windows (which is not what you're using right now, right? )

On the master server: that fixed it.

On the server IP: I set it to ANY but didn't get the response I expected. It still bound to 0.0.0.0, and I couldn't connect to it. So I set it to my actual IP address on the LAN (192.168.1.102).

Oh, sorry for misleading output. 0.0.0.0 is supposed to mean "any" and connections to your true IP (or using the LAN browser) should work nevertheless.
Do you have a better idea what to print?

Hmmm, "any"? Because it shows 0.0.0.0 if it doesn't have anything, either. It still takes connections from localhost, though, so maybe it should show the loopback address in that case and 0.0.0.0 (or alternately *.*.*.*) for any?

No, this is on linux, running directly out of a directory, not installed.

Tank: Works for me... You'll have to debug it yourself, I'm afraid.

Lucifer: I'm baffled, when does the output of 0.0.0.0 mean the operation failed?

Hmmm, maybe it doesn't. :) I read it that way when I had other problems causing failure (nat problems), so maybe I'm smoking crack again and not sharing!!!!

Hmm, ok. Let's start with: Where are screen shots supposed to go by default? (And how do you change type?)

Edit: found them. ~/.armagetronad/screenshot. The funny thing is the numbering continued from ~/Armagetron/screenshot. Of course, why are screenshots going into a hidden directory in the first place? And since it's not installed, why isn't it going right into the game dir? And still, how do you change screen shot type? PNG creates a horrible lag for me. Maybe make it a menu setting? Here's the screen shot of traveling through a wall...

Tank: the variable PNG_SCREENSHOT should switch between png and bmp mode. I run AA usually from the build directory as well:

Code: Select all

mkdir build
cd build
../armagetronad/configure
make run
and screenshots are put in the screenshot directory thereof. No matter whether I run in debug or release mode. The code for screenshots is in rSysdep.cpp, and tDirectories.cpp decides where stuff is put.

Lucifer: I replace 0.0.0.0 now with *.*.*.* everywhere. We'll see if there is an occasion where this causes more confusion.

png screenshots cause about 3 seconds of frozen screen before the game returns but then again my system is slow

Umm, by this spec is rather vague and allows for all kinds of names, for example included/1.0.xml... Is this intentional?
'included'/'automatic' arent part of the filepath.
z-man wrote:On the other hand it does not allow for grouping my maps, z-man/trivial/square-1.0.xml would be illegal.
Sorry... left out a '.../'
z-man wrote:And the 40gon has no version number. If you want to update it, you have to make it a 41gon :)
Didn't notice that, thanks... hopefully I'll remember to fix it when I get my main box moved.
z-man wrote:Even though our included maps follow this spec roughly, they don't look particularly consistent to me. Remember users don't read the documentation unless they have to. When a mapper wants to decide how to name his map, he'll look at our included maps and follow any pattern he sees in them. And there is none, so he'll assume map names don't matter. Lead by example.
We need more non-generic maps included, then :)
