Well for all we know that cat may just be staring at another cat to have this reaction.
Yeah, no.. that cat looks absolutely terrified and distressed. That's not funny, <snip>. Check your human privilege please!

Anyways, listening to Mac Demarco's album Salad days.

It does, though it isn't only about the color itself.
"but once again the skin color doesn't matter to me." Fixed. That's what I meant.
Phytotron wrote:You need to read up on the subject of cultural appropriation, and no, Wikipedia is not enough. However, I've called you out on this several times, and it's abundantly clear you've never made any effort whatsoever to look into it and educate yourself, most likely willfully so.
I agree, that sounds like something worth reading up on. However, I think you're the one with some sort of problem (assuming here you think I have a problem, I'm not sure what you want) if you're feeling righteous about "calling me out on this several times". Just listen to the music if you want to, or skip it, or counter with the original tune if you prefer the sound of that and would like me to hear it. I feel that the criticism is uncalled for.

& nope, not really "willfully so".

Obligatory on-topic song: Tingsek & Vindla String Quartet - World of its own - Live
Tingsek is great, and yesterday I discovered he made an album together with a string quartet. lovely! Shame there's no better recording of this song on youtube. Spotify url if you use that service.
His non string quartet stuff is worth looking into too ^^ the same song in its original form, for example.

That doesn't change a thing. That's what you don't get. Just google the phrases "I don't see color" and "colorblind approach." All kinds of analyses there to explain to you how that mentality is a problem. I won't expound at lengthy detail, but I'll briefly touch on a few key points.

See, you think you're being all magnanimous or accepting and appealing to "equality," but in fact it's the reverse. When you say that, you're dismissing people's unique experiences and identities, experiences that you don't have to deal with or acknowledge by virtue of being white (and European). You're saying, "I don't see you. Don't want to, don't have to." You're erasing them, like the rich erasing the poor. If someone tells you "I am a black woman, this is who I am," you don't reply "that doesn't matter to me." That's just shitty. Think about the other contexts when you would reply to someone with "that doesn't matter to me." Not good, huh?

Likewise for music. African American music of the 20th century (actually, dating back to the mid-19th, an even broader subject) comes from a particular culture and history. It is an artistic expression of that. It is inextricable from the music. It f'ing means something. When you eviscerate that, when you remove its soul, especially for, ahem, "mainstream (read: white) consumption," when you refuse to acknowledge where it comes from and what it means and make no effort to find out, when you won't even listen to the originators but only the appropriators, that's a damned insult. It's not simply cluelessness, it's active offense.

Now, Nat King Cole and Unforgettable may not be the best example of this, it's pretty vanilla. However, 1) I was as much alluding to the clarinetist and situation, and 2) as I said in my original comment, it comes in context. It's a trend with you. And yes, I've called you out on it multiple times. Just forum search my posts for the words "jazz" and "blues," actually read it and contemplate it and try once more to see the points I was trying to get across to you instead of just immediately reacting to this post with some shitty, snide remark about how much of a good person you are.

Go get educated, son.

Phytotron, you mistake insults for a lack of obligation to give a shit. Nobody has to care about finding out anything; it shouldn't be considered offensive just because somebody would rather not know something.

Also, saying color doesn't matter isn't dismissing anything (like culture or history); it's saying that the opinions of each isn't all that different emotionally (as in, there's no reason for the person to hate / love any one color or culture more than the other - which is statiscally bound to happen. Note: this doesn't mean that everyone is like that; obviously people have preferences. It's only a problem when people are racist about it; going out of their way to take racist actions).
Plus, it wouldn't even matter if they were dismissing another person's unique experiences and/or identities. Why do you have to care how they live their life so long as it doesn't affect you in a directly negative way? It's a choice in music and you're getting offended over that? Please.. You're bringing sensitivity and bitching to a whole new level. What an accomplishment! (<--sarcasm)

It's like as if a person considered every tronner that they played with to be sexless light cycles without a real identity...why would you even care what that person thinks so as to be offended by it?
This thread is about music and people will have preferences that do not have to pertain to their opinions on any culture or history.
If someone was to say that they dislike any genres that (just so happened to) come out of black culture, it doesn't necessarily mean they are racist against blacks, nor does it have to say anything about their own race (or culture or history).

Are you trying to be an ass? Or does it just come naturally?
Go educate yourself on forum use. Your post serves no purpose to the thread, but only to talk down to Titanoboa.
If you want to talk about who is and who isn't a problem, then look for a cause - in this case, you're the cause of off-topic and demeaning conversation, not anyone else.
So what are you doing? What purpose are you serving by being an ass to another tronner without provocation?
What are you trying to prove?

Durf, you should start to differentiate between people like yourself and everyone else - people who care about others and know how to read. For your own good.
If someone was to say that they dislike any genres that (just so happened to) come out of black culture
If they say it just like that (instead of "I don't like jazz"), that IS a racist statement. It implies you don't like the music because of the skin color. Same if they "just so happen to" dislike black people.

Yea that's what I was saying. Although I was using an extreme case where a person would "just so happen to" dislike all of those particular genres without any particular dislike for the race associated with them. I probably supported that in a confusing way, but you essentially repeated what I was saying, it's only a problem if they are racist about it.
My point of the "colorless perspective" was that it doesn't have to be about race or any kind of dismissal.
Specifically that I don't see the opinion "color doesn't matter" as something to be offended over.

In regards to differentiating people between myself and others, you might have to PM me some examples of what you mean.
