Nick names are a real thing and have little to do with the internet.

If you're wondering, many of the people I know IRL call me by "Durf".

Frankly, the choice between your real name and a nick name has little to do with the topic at hand.
"fake names" was in the context of within Armagetron.

So even when a person is using a nick name IRL, this shouldn't constitute as using a "fake name" as I am describing in my posts.
(mostly because the choice for using a nick name isn't related to the personal reasons why a tronner would want to play under a different name)

Put simply...everyone real name is already taken. What else do you expect from an internet/gaming pseudonym?

I guess Z-Man doesn't use fake names though...

I even saw him logged in on the server list

That's very unlikely to be me. I have not been on a server as Z-Man in probably years (and when I do, I sign in to Z-Man@forums). Z-Man-Recording or Zad-Min, yes.

A "Z-Man@forums" did log in on that server.
As shown in the picture, I was there for that.

If you say you weren't on the server, then I can only think of:
- USER_ALIAS such that the server owner can pull a prank
- Someone other than you logged in with your password

It wasn't just the logged in message (or a prank CONSOLE_MESSAGE) either, I did /players too when the supposed Z-Man was logged in. I saw for myself.

Not sure what to make of it (but there's still plenty of possibilities).
o.o this is getting a bit off topic...

Back to you, Phytotron!

Well, I don't even know what server this is supposed to be nor when, so I can't be too sure. I do not think anyone has my forum password, there would be so many more fun ways to exploit that. But yes, the server controls everything you see. If a server owner wants to appear as Z-Man@forums, they can.

Funny thing. I think the last time I played as Z-Man I was not quick enough to authenticate and got kicked for being an impostor. Served me right.

Its pretty self evident why various players change thier names, and generally, it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out.

The shitty players change thier names once they get better so they wont be taken the same way.

The amazing players change thier names for similar reasons, but different outcomes.

The difference in how easy you ***** are to kill depending on my name is not only measureable, but incredible.

If Im rolling as HAIL SATAN!, I can expect endless rounds of people wasting my time.

If Im rolling as BacterialSlime, I can finish the same match, with the same people, in under three minutes.
